Devil's claw is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, but digestive upset is common. The most frequent side effects are allergic skin reactions, diarrhea, and indigestion — reported in roughly 9% to 18% of people taking devil's claw extracts in trials.

Rarely, gastrointestinal bleeding, headache, dizziness, ringing in the ears, loss of appetite, and loss of taste have been reported. Avoid devil's claw during pregnancy because it may affect the uterus and its safety has not been established.

Also avoid it while breastfeeding due to lack of safety data.

If you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any blood thinner, do not start devil's claw without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.
