This product contains one active ingredient: DMAE bitartrate (also called deanol), at 351 mg per tablet. DMAE is a naturally occurring compound thought to support brain chemistry by increasing acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in memory and focus.
The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, modified cellulose gum, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, and silica — which serve as binders, thickeners, and flow agents to hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for DMAE's effectiveness is limited. For Alzheimer disease, research rates it likely ineffective.
For tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movement disorder), the evidence also rates it likely ineffective. For aging skin, ADHD, and athletic performance, we hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate whether it works — meaning the research available isn't robust enough to say either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
DMAE is generally well tolerated, but side effects do occur. The most common ones are abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting.
Other reported effects include constipation, headache, insomnia, overstimulation, confusion, and lucid dreams. At higher doses — above 1,000 mg daily — mood changes including depression and hypomania have been reported in people with psychiatric conditions.
There is not enough safety data for pregnancy, and some animal research raises concern; the safety data advises against use during pregnancy. For breastfeeding, safety is unknown, so it is best to avoid while breastfeeding.
