Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We hold no effectiveness ratings for figwort in our data, so we can't tell you from the facts on file whether it works for any particular purpose.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Figwort has limited safety data, so the guidance is to use it with care and keep it short-term only. The safety information we hold advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — there isn't enough reliable data to know it's safe in either situation.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether figwort is right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking figwort, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take lithium or any diuretic drugs (water pills). Both can interact, and your doses may need adjustment.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
Figwort is a single-herb liquid extract with two significant medication interactions — lithium and diuretics — so it's not one to take without checking your prescriptions first. Because safety data are sparse, short-term use with your doctor's or pharmacist's guidance is the way to go.
Have your healthcare provider or pharmacist review your medications before you start.

Figwort by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Figwort by Herbal Terra is a single-ingredient liquid extract that interacts with medications in two important ways.
The most serious concern is with lithium (used for mood disorders): figwort's diuretic properties may reduce how your kidneys clear lithium from your body, raising its level to potentially unsafe amounts — you'd likely need a dose adjustment. Figwort also interacts with diuretic drugs (water pills).
If you take potassium-depleting diuretics, figwort might compound the potassium loss and raise your risk of low potassium levels (hypokalemia); you may need to start or increase a potassium supplement. Altogether, these interactions span 76 individual medications.
Before you start figwort, check your exact medications with the tool on this page, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist — especially if you're on lithium or any water pill.

Diuretic Drugs
Theoretically, overuse of figwort might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss. There is some concern that people taking figwort along with potassium depleting diuretics might have an increased risk for hypokalemia. Initiation of potassium supplementation or an increase in potassium supplement dose may be necessary for some patients. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.
Lithium
Figwort is thought to have diuretic properties. Theoretically, due to these potential diuretic effects, figwort might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
