Bendroflumethiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Figwort interacts with.

Theoretically, overuse of figwort might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss. There is some concern that people taking figwort along with potassium depleting diuretics might have an increased risk for hypokalemia. Initiation of potassium supplementation or an increase in potassium supplement dose may be necessary for some patients. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's the simple version. Bendroflumethiazide is a thiazide-type water pill, and one thing it tends to do is flush extra potassium out of your body. The worry with figwort is that, in theory, it may have a mild diuretic-like effect of its own, so stacking the two could push your potassium a little lower than the medicine alone would.

If potassium drops too far, you might notice things like muscle cramps, weakness, tiredness, or an irregular heartbeat. I want to be honest, though: this concern is theoretical, based on how these plants behave rather than real patient studies, and a true interaction is far from certain. Still, since figwort's benefits are unproven, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if your potassium runs low.
