FloraBoost Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking FloraBoost against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of FloraBoost by Ortho Molecular Products
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
FloraBoost contains 8 active ingredients — six live probiotic bacteria (Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium lactis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Streptococcus thermophilus) plus one live yeast (Saccharomyces boulardii). These are designed to support digestive and immune health by adding beneficial microorganisms to your gut.
The powder also contains microcrystalline cellulose and silicon dioxide as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus shows some support for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum and Saccharomyces boulardii both have evidence suggesting they may help with irritable bowel syndrome and antibiotic-associated diarrhea; Saccharomyces boulardii is also possibly effective for travelers' diarrhea and Clostridioides difficile infection. However, for many of the other conditions this product might be used for — allergic rhinitis, asthma, anxiety, cognitive decline — the evidence is too limited to draw conclusions.
Streptococcus thermophilus has insufficient evidence for all the conditions we checked.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in FloraBoost are generally well tolerated in healthy people, though rare side effects have been reported. With these live organisms, there's a small risk of infection (bacteremia or sepsis) in people who are critically ill, have weakened immune systems, or have catheters — that's why immune-compromised patients should check with their doctor first.
Mild gastrointestinal complaints like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea have been reported rarely. For Lactobacillus acidophilus, pregnancy is rated possibly safe; for Bifidobacterium bifidum and Streptococcus thermophilus, pregnancy is also possibly safe.
For breastfeeding, limited safety data exist for Bifidobacterium longum — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it while nursing. Data for the other ingredients' breastfeeding safety aren't on file.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking FloraBoost, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on antibiotic drugs — these are the main concern, as they can kill the live probiotics and reduce how well they work. Also flag any antifungal medications, since the Saccharomyces boulardii in this product is a live yeast that antifungals may affect.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
FloraBoost is a multispecies probiotic that may help with certain digestive issues if you're generally healthy. If you take antibiotics or antifungals, you'll need to space them out from this product — ask your pharmacist about timing.
People who are seriously ill, immunocompromised, or considering it during pregnancy or breastfeeding should check with their doctor or pharmacist first before starting.

FloraBoost by Ortho Molecular Products Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
FloraBoost by Ortho Molecular Products is a probiotic powder with live bacterial and yeast organisms, and it does interact with certain medications.
The most serious concern involves its Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Bifidobacterium bifidum content with antibiotic drugs — taking them together might kill the probiotic organisms and reduce their effectiveness.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Antibiotics are the main drug type to watch. Since these probiotics are live organisms, antibiotics can destroy them before they have a chance to work.
Your doctor or pharmacist can help you space out the timing so the probiotics and antibiotics don't interfere with each other.
Additionally, Saccharomyces boulardii (a live yeast in this product) may be affected by antifungal medications in a similar way — the antifungal could reduce how well the yeast works. Altogether, these interactions span 222 individual medications.
We could not check Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, or Bifidobacterium lactis because we hold no data for them. To see whether your specific medications are affected, use the interaction checker on this page.

Bifidobacterium longum BI-05
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Lactobacillus acidophilus (La-14)
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium bifidum (Bb-02)
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Saccharomyces boulardii
Antifungals
Theoretically, taking antifungals with Saccharomyces boulardii might decrease the effectiveness of Saccharomyces boulardii.
S. boulardii is a live yeast. Therefore, simultaneously taking antifungals might kill a significant number of the organisms.
