Full disclosure
GenoFlex contains three active ingredients. Cissus quadrangularis stem extract and Boswellia serrata gum resin extract are both included for joint and bone support.
Passion Fruit seed extract rounds out the formula. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — gelatin, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, and FD&C Yellow No.
5 — which help hold the supplement together and give it its color.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for GenoFlex's ingredients is mixed. Cissus quadrangularis shows possibly effective evidence for obesity, based on small studies suggesting it may lower fasting blood glucose in people who are overweight.
For bone health (osteopenia), inflammation, high cholesterol, and cancer, the data we hold on Cissus is insufficient to rate it. Boswellia serrata is rated possibly effective for osteoarthritis.
For hay fever, Alzheimer's disease, asthma, and cluster headaches, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate it. We don't have effectiveness data on file for Passion Fruit seed extract.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cissus quadrangularis has been generally well tolerated in short-term studies, though long-term safety hasn't been well studied. Reported side effects — headache, insomnia, flatulence, diarrhea, upset stomach, and dry mouth — occurred at rates similar to or lower than placebo.
Boswellia serrata is also generally well tolerated orally in the short term, though product quality and doses vary widely. Common side effects include abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, heartburn, nausea, and itching.
In one study, nearly 11% of people taking a specific extract reported headache. A rare but serious concern: very large amounts of boswellia gum resin can cause bezoar formation (a mass in the GI tract).
Neither ingredient should be used during pregnancy — there isn't enough safety data. Boswellia should also be avoided while breastfeeding.

Precautions

Consult with a licensed physician before using this product, especially if you are taking any prescription, over the counter medication, dietary supplement product, or if you have any preexisting medical condition including but not limited to: high or low blood pressure, high or low cholesterol, cardiac arrhythmia, stroke, heart, liver, kidney or thyroid disease, seizure disorder, psychiatric disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, difficulty urinating due to prostate enlargement or if you are taking a MAO-B inhibitor or any other medication.
Do not take this product if you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, testicular cancer or breast cancer. Discontinue use 2 weeks prior to surgery. Discontinue use and immediately consult your health care professional if you experience any adverse reaction to this product. Do not exceed recommended serving. Do not use if safety seal is broken or missing.

Boswellia inhibits several liver enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP2C19, CYP1A2, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4), which means it may increase the levels of drugs that rely on those pathways — potentially making them stronger or causing side effects.

Boswellia serrata (gum resin) extract
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.
Cissus quadrangularis (stem) extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, Cissus quadrangularis might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Small clinical studies suggest that Cissus quadrangularis might reduce fasting blood glucose in individuals with overweight or obesity.
