Here's the gist for your eczema medicine. Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP2C19 to clear Cibinqo (abrocitinib) out of your system. In test-tube studies, the boswellic acids in Boswellia appear to slow that same enzyme down. If that effect carried over into people, abrocitinib could clear a bit slower and build up, which might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like nausea, headache, acne, or a dip in your blood counts that raises infection risk.

I want to be honest: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab data, not real patient reports, so it may not amount to much. Still, since abrocitinib affects your immune system, please run the combination by your pharmacist or doctor before adding Boswellia.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.

Here's the situation with Cibinqo (abrocitinib) and Boswellia. Abrocitinib is a JAK inhibitor, meaning its whole job is to calm down an overactive immune system so your eczema settles. Boswellia, on the other hand, has its own effects on immune signaling, but the picture is messy. Some lab studies suggest it dials the immune system down, while others suggest certain boswellic acids can actually rev parts of it up.

Because these signals point in opposite directions, nobody can say for sure how the two would interact in a real person. This is purely theoretical, based on test-tube and animal work, not on people taking them together. There's no strong reason to panic, but since abrocitinib already affects your immune defenses, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Boswellia.

What Is Abrocitinib Used For?

Brand name: Cibinqo

Cibinqo (abrocitinib) is used to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is specifically for people whose eczema has not been adequately controlled with other systemic (whole-body) treatments, including biologics, or when those treatments are not a safe option.

Cibinqo is not recommended to be used at the same time as other JAK inhibitors, biologic immunomodulators, or other immunosuppressants (medicines that reduce immune system activity).
