Prednisone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down prednisone. In test-tube studies, boswellia mostly slows that enzyme down (though at very low amounts it might slightly speed it up). If it slows clearance, a bit more prednisone could hang around, which in theory might bump up familiar steroid effects like trouble sleeping, a jittery or wired feeling, raised blood sugar, fluid retention, or stomach upset.

The important part: this is theoretical, based only on lab research, not real patient cases, so it may never cause a noticeable problem. Prednisone isn't a prodrug, so it doesn't flip the other way. Still, before pairing them, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you take prednisone long-term.

Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.

Here's the gist with Boswellia serrata and prednisone: both are working on your immune system and on inflammation, so the concern is that they could tug in different directions. Prednisone is a steroid that calms the immune response, which is exactly why it's used for arthritis, lupus, allergic flares, and similar conditions. Boswellia, in lab dishes, has shown mixed signals, sometimes quieting immune activity and sometimes nudging it up. That makes its real effect on prednisone hard to predict.

Honestly, this is a theoretical interaction based only on test tube and animal work, not on people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you rely on prednisone to control a serious condition, mention the boswellia to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how well your symptoms stay controlled. Don't change either one on your own.
