Here's the gist with aripiprazole (Abilify) and boswellia. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear aripiprazole. In test-tube studies, boswellic acids seem to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, aripiprazole could build up a bit higher than usual, which might mean more side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, mild shakiness, or trouble sitting still.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based only on lab research, not on actual patient reports, so it may not amount to much. Still, since aripiprazole is a long-term mental health medicine, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding boswellia so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Here's the gist for aripiprazole (Abilify). Your body partly clears this medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, boswellia mostly seems to slow that enzyme down (and at low amounts might mildly speed it up). If it slows the enzyme in real life, aripiprazole could build up a bit, which may mean more side effects like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or shaky movements. The opposite (a weaker effect) is also possible.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube studies, not on people, so it may not amount to much. Still, since aripiprazole is a brain medicine where balance matters, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding boswellia.
