Abemaciclib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Here's the connection worth knowing. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear abemaciclib (Verzenio) out of your system. In lab studies, boswellia appears to slow that same enzyme at most concentrations (and possibly speed it up a little at very low ones). If boswellia slows it down in real life, abemaciclib could build up and lead to more of its typical side effects, things like diarrhea, low blood counts, fatigue, or nausea.

The honest part: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work, so we don't really know if it happens in people. But abemaciclib is a serious cancer drug, so please don't add boswellia without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

About Abemaciclib

What Is Abemaciclib Used For?

Brand name: Verzenio

Verzenio (abemaciclib) is used to treat HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer in adults. For early breast cancer at high risk of recurrence, Verzenio is taken alongside endocrine therapy (tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor) after surgery to help prevent the cancer from coming back.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Verzenio can be used in combination with an aromatase inhibitor as a first hormonal treatment, in combination with fulvestrant after the cancer has progressed on endocrine therapy, or alone after prior endocrine therapy and chemotherapy have stopped working.
