Life Extension Florassist contains 11 active ingredients: four bacteriophages (viruses that target harmful bacteria) and seven live probiotic bacterial strains. The probiotics include Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum ssp. longum, L. plantarum 14D, B. animalis ssp. lactis BLC1, L. paracasei IMC 502, and L. rhamnosus IMC 501.
The inactive ingredients are glycerin, vegetable cellulose, stearic acid, vegetable stearate, maltodextrin, silica, corn starch, purified water, and chlorophyllin.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence for effectiveness varies by strain and condition. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
The other bacterial strains and the bacteriophages have insufficient reliable evidence or show possibly ineffective ratings for the conditions studied. The data we hold doesn't establish clear effectiveness for most uses of this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though gastrointestinal side effects — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea — have been reported uncommonly with probiotic combinations. Caution is warranted if you're seriously ill, immunocompromised, or in an intensive care setting; rare cases of bacteremia (bacteria entering the bloodstream) have occurred with Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains in critically ill infants and adults.
Pregnancy safety for L. acidophilus is rated possibly safe; for B. longum, possibly safe as well. We don't hold pregnancy or lactation data for the other strains or the bacteriophages.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium breve with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. breve.
Since B. breve preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. breve preparations by at least 2 hours.
L. acidophilus LA1
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
B. longum ssp. longum SP54
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
