The evidence we hold shows L-Glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease. For HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma, the data suggests it's possibly effective — meaning there's some promising evidence, but it's not yet definitive.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects from oral doses are gastrointestinal — belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
Headache and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. Rare cases of dizziness and mood changes (mania or hypomania) have occurred, mostly in people with bipolar disorder taking high doses.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use this supplement only under a doctor's supervision. There isn't enough safety data to recommend it during pregnancy without talking to your doctor first.
During breastfeeding, the safety data is limited, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before taking a supplement dose.
