Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is pure glutamine, an amino acid your body makes and uses naturally. Glutamine plays a role in immune function, gut health, and muscle recovery, especially after surgery or during serious illness.
The powder also contains inactive ingredients for flavor and sweetness: natural and artificial blue raspberry flavoring, citric acid, malic acid, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, and FD&C Blue #1 colorant.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease. It's possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, recovery after surgery, and critical illness from trauma.
The evidence for those uses shows promise but isn't as strong as for sickle cell disease. If you're considering it for another reason, that data isn't on file here.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Glutamine is generally well tolerated by healthy adults. The most common side effects from oral use are gastrointestinal: belching, bloating, constipation, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Headache and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. A small number of people with bipolar disorder experienced mania or hypomania at higher doses, and one case of dizziness resolved when the dose was lowered.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use glutamine only under medical supervision. There isn't enough safety data to recommend supplemental doses during pregnancy — talk with your doctor for personalized advice.
The same goes for breastfeeding: safety data is limited, so check with your clinician before taking it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticonvulsant medications (seizure preventers), double-check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product — glutamine may theoretically oppose their effects, though this hasn't been seen in actual patients. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Glutamine may help with sickle cell disease and possibly aids recovery after surgery or during critical illness. If you take anticonvulsants, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interaction is theoretical but flagged as moderate concern.
Healthy adults tolerate it well, but people with kidney or liver disease need medical oversight. Have a conversation with your own doctor or pharmacist about whether it fits your situation.
