What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Gynostemma Leaf Extract, Dry (also called jiaogulan). The inactive ingredients are alcohol, water, and glycerin — a liquid extract base.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Gynostemma is possibly effective for diabetes, based on clinical research showing it can lower blood glucose. For athletic performance, cancer, heart disease, fatty liver disease, and respiratory infections, there isn't enough reliable evidence to establish whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Jiaogulan appears generally well tolerated in tea or supplement form over short periods — most people tolerate it without issue. The most common side effects are diarrhea and nausea; dry mouth, dizziness, and insomnia have also been reported.
Long-term safety hasn't been well studied. Avoid this product during pregnancy — safety hasn't been established and it may affect fetal development.
Also avoid it while breastfeeding because there isn't enough safety information.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, check with us if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or clopidogrel — jiaogulan may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check if you take diabetes medications (it may lower blood sugar too much) or immunosuppressants (it may reduce their effectiveness).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Gynostemma may help with blood sugar control, but it's not right for anyone taking blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, diabetes medications, or immunosuppressants without a conversation first. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, skip it.
Talk to your pharmacist before starting, especially if you're on any prescriptions.

Gynostemma by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra's Gynostemma contains jiaogulan leaf extract, which interacts with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel): jiaogulan may increase bleeding risk because it has antiplatelet effects of its own. This is a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Jiaogulan also interacts with drugs that lower blood sugar (antidiabetes medications): it can lower blood glucose levels on its own, so combining it with these drugs may push your blood sugar too low (hypoglycemia). This is also Moderate severity.
Additionally, it may decrease how well immunosuppressant drugs work, since jiaogulan appears to stimulate the immune system.
Additionally, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page — these are drug categories, and your specific prescriptions matter. Altogether, these interactions span 322 individual medications.
