Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Shilajit product and its label doesn't state a use — see Shilajit's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for shilajit's effectiveness is currently insufficient across the uses we have data for — Alzheimer's disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and osteoporosis. While there's traditional use in its favor, reliable clinical evidence isn't yet established in the data we hold.

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Shilajit products carry a contamination risk — unpurified shilajit may contain heavy metals or other contaminants, so choose only purified, tested brands like this one. Rare side effects reported in research include headache and allergic reactions; a case of severe anaphylaxis (a life-threatening allergic reaction) has been documented.

This product is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data and contamination concerns. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Shilajit.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take any antidiabetes medication — including metformin, glibenclamide, or other blood sugar–lowering drugs — check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before using this product. Shilajit may increase the risk of low blood sugar, so your doctor may need to adjust your dose or monitor you more closely.

High-Himalayan Black Raw Shilajit Paste is a single-ingredient supplement with traditional use but unproven effectiveness for the common claims made about it. The main concern is its potential to lower blood sugar in people taking diabetes medications.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.

High-Himalayan Black Raw Shilajit Paste by Omica Organics: Common Questions

Does High-Himalayan Black Raw Shilajit Paste by Omica Organics interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, High-Himalayan Black Raw Shilajit Paste has a known interaction with 86 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
High-Himalayan Black Raw Shilajit Paste contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does shilajit actually work for Alzheimer's disease, sexual problems, or athletic performance?
The evidence isn't established yet. We have insufficient reliable data to rate shilajit for Alzheimer's disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or osteoporosis. While it's used traditionally, strong clinical proof is lacking.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No, it's best avoided. There isn't enough safety data during pregnancy, and contamination risk is a concern. Safety while breastfeeding is also unknown. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
What side effects has shilajit caused?
Headache is rare in research. A severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) has been reported in one case, and mild allergic symptoms in another. Since unpurified products may contain heavy metals or contaminants, use only purified, tested brands.
Does this product contain anything besides shilajit?
No — this is a single-ingredient product with only shilajit extract and no other active or inactive ingredients listed.
What happens if I take this with my diabetes medication?
Shilajit may strengthen your diabetes drug's blood-sugar–lowering effect, raising your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Check your exact medications on this page and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — they may need to monitor your blood sugar or adjust your dose.
