Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: shilajit extract. Shilajit is a mineral-rich substance traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine.
There are no inactive ingredients listed, so what you're getting is the extract itself.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence on shilajit for most uses hasn't been established well enough in the data we hold. The product is marketed for Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and osteopenia (low bone density), but each of these conditions is rated as having insufficient reliable evidence.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means human research is still catching up.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a small number of adverse effects have been reported. One case of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) and another of a mild allergic response (hives) appear in the literature.
Headache is reported rarely. The safety data comes with an important caution: unpurified products can contain heavy metals and other contaminants, so buy only from purified, tested brands like this one.
The safety data advises against using shilajit during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before adding this product if you take any antidiabetes drug (Moderate severity) — shilajit can enhance their blood-sugar-lowering effect and raise your risk of low blood sugar. Run your exact medications through the checker on this page.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take antidiabetes medication, you'll want to check with your pharmacist before using this product — the combination could lower your blood sugar too much. Buy only purified, tested shilajit to avoid contamination.
Skip it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. For everyone else, talk to your pharmacist about whether it's right for you.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Omica Organics' High-Himalayan Black Shilajit Paste contains one active ingredient — shilajit extract — and it does interact with a medication class you need to know about before you start.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The main concern is antidiabetes drugs (like metformin and glibenclamide). Shilajit can lower your blood sugar, and when combined with these medications, it may increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Animal studies show it enhances the glucose-lowering effect of both types. If you take any diabetes medication, checking your blood sugar more closely and talking with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product is important.
Altogether, these interactions span 85 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions before you begin.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
