HLC Multi Strain contains 15 active probiotic ingredients — live beneficial bacteria and one beneficial yeast strain designed to support gut health. The ingredients include multiple strains of Lactobacillus (L. acidophilus, L. paracasei, L. plantarum, L. gasseri, L. salivarius, L. casei, and L. fermentum), several Bifidobacterium species (B. bifidum, B. breve, and B. animalis lactis in three different strains), Streptococcus salivarius thermophilus, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus.
The capsule itself is made from cellulose (plant material), hypromellose (a capsule coating), sunflower lecithin, and silica.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these individual strains varies. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. For the other strains in this product, the evidence we hold is either insufficient or shows they are possibly ineffective — for example, Bifidobacterium breve appears possibly ineffective for age-related cognitive decline and sepsis.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The Lactobacillus acidophilus strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. The other checked strains — Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus gasseri — are generally well tolerated in healthy people, but caution is advised for anyone with a weakened immune system.
Side effects from probiotics in general can include bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea, though these are uncommon. In rare cases, live probiotic organisms have been found in the bloodstream, particularly in critically ill or very young patients; this is thought to occur when bacteria move from their normal location in the body rather than from the probiotic itself.
One clinical trial combining L. acidophilus with other probiotics reported a couple of rashes in participants, though it's unclear whether the probiotics caused them.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
