HMF Maternity Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Genestra Brands
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking HMF Maternity against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
HMF Maternity is a 4-ingredient probiotic capsule designed to support gut and immune health during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The active ingredients are four live bacterial strains: Lactobacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, and Lactobacillus salivarius.
The capsule also contains two inactive ingredients—potato maltodextrin and hypromellose—which serve as fillers and the capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The two Bifidobacterium strains in this product have been studied for several uses. Both are rated Possibly Effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and respiratory tract infections.
Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis is also Possibly Effective for constipation. For allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and generalized anxiety disorder, the evidence isn't established enough to rate either strain.
The effectiveness of Lactobacillus paracasei and Lactobacillus salivarius isn't covered in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The Bifidobacterium strains are generally well tolerated in healthy people, though those with weakened immune systems should be cautious. The most common side effect reported with Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis is diarrhea; bloating and gas can occur with probiotics in general but haven't been specifically reported for these strains alone.
In rare cases, probiotics have caused serious infections in critically ill patients, but this is uncommon. For pregnancy, Bifidobacterium bifidum is rated Possibly Safe; however, pregnancy and lactation safety data isn't available for the other three ingredients in this product.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, separate them from this product—antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the probiotic and reduce its benefit. Lactobacillus paracasei and Lactobacillus salivarius couldn't be checked against our medication database, so confirm with your pharmacist that no other interactions exist with your specific medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
HMF Maternity is a probiotic blend designed for pregnant and nursing people, with two strains showing Possibly Effective evidence for IBS and respiratory infections. The main caution is that antibiotics can reduce its effectiveness—you'll need to time them apart.
Since safety data for pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited for most of its ingredients, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it to make sure it fits your individual situation.

HMF Maternity by Genestra Brands Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
HMF Maternity by Genestra Brands contains four active probiotic ingredients, and two of them—Bifidobacterium bifidum and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis—interact with antibiotics.
Both strains are live organisms, and taking antibiotics at the same time might kill a significant portion of them, reducing their effectiveness. The interaction is rated Moderate.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
We couldn't check two of the ingredients (Lactobacillus paracasei and Lactobacillus salivarius) against the medication database we hold, so interactions with those strains remain unknown. The "Probiotic Consortium" listed is just the group name for these four organisms and doesn't introduce any additional concerns beyond what each strain carries on its own.
If you take antibiotics, separate them from this product—ask your pharmacist for timing guidance so the antibiotics have time to work and the probiotics aren't wiped out. Check your exact medications with the search tool on this page to be sure.
