InflamaZyme contains 11 active ingredients, most of them enzymes that help break down proteins. The main ones are papain and bromelain, two plant-derived proteases; several other enzymes including serrapeptase, trypsin, chymotrypsin, and acid protease; plus nattokinase, a bacterial enzyme; and pancreatin.
There's also superoxide dismutase, an antioxidant enzyme. The product is filled out with inactive ingredients—maltodextrin, cellulose, rice blend extract, and silica—which serve as binders and flow agents.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence base for most of these ingredients is limited. For papain, bromelain, serrapeptase, trypsin, nattokinase, acid protease, and bacterial protease, we hold insufficient reliable evidence to say whether they work for the conditions they're marketed for.
Chymotrypsin shows effective evidence for one condition—cataracts—but only limited or no evidence for burns, fractures, and chronic parotitis. Overall, the data we hold does not establish that InflamaZyme works for the purposes manufacturers typically claim.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Short-term use of these enzymes is generally well tolerated in studied populations, but long-term safety data is sparse. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: diarrhea, nausea, heartburn, and stomach upset.
Some people may have allergic reactions—papain and bromelain can cause itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing, skin rash (urticaria), and abdominal cramps. Rarely, chymotrypsin and nattokinase have been reported to trigger anaphylaxis.
Papain in high doses may cause severe stomach inflammation or rarely esophageal perforation. For pregnancy: the safety data advises against concentrated papain, bromelain, serrapeptase, chymotrypsin, trypsin, nattokinase, acid protease, and bacterial protease during pregnancy.
For breastfeeding: there isn't enough safety information to know whether these ingredients are safe while nursing—talk with your pharmacist or doctor for guidance.

Before taking InflamaZyme, check with your pharmacist if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants) like warfarin, or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel—papain, bromelain, serrapeptase, and nattokinase may increase bleeding and bruising risk. If you take blood pressure medications, nattokinase may lower your pressure further.
Tetracycline antibiotics may have their absorption increased by bromelain. No interactions are documented for the other ingredients we could check.

Nattokinase
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Nattokinase might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
Nattokinase has thrombolytic and anticoagulant effects. There is a case report of intracranial hemorrhage in a patient who added nattokinase to aspirin therapy.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, nattokinase might increase the risk of hypotension when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical research suggests that nattokinase may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
Serrapeptase
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking serrapeptase with drugs that have antiplatelet or anticoagulant effects might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research shows that serrapeptase has fibrinolytic activity.
Papain
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, papain might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
