Jarro-Dophilus Baby Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Jarro-Dophilus Baby against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Jarro-Dophilus Baby by Jarrow Formulas
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Jarro-Dophilus Baby is a powder with 7 active ingredients — a proprietary probiotic blend containing four named bacterial strains (B. longum BB536, B. breve M-16V, B. bifidum Bb-02, and L. rhamnosus Lr-32), plus L. casei R0215 and B. animalis lactis BL-04 listed separately. It also contains galacto-oligosaccharides, a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria.
The powder also includes two inactive ingredients: tapioca starch and ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's individual strains is mixed. B. bifidum shows possibly effective ratings for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections.
B. longum and B. breve, on the other hand, lack strong evidence — the data we hold show insufficient reliable evidence for most uses we checked, and B. breve is rated possibly ineffective for age-related cognitive decline and sepsis. For the other strains and ingredients in this formula, we don't hold effectiveness ratings in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotic strains are generally well tolerated in healthy infants and children, but caution is needed if your baby is seriously ill, has a weakened immune system, or is premature. Rare gastrointestinal side effects — mainly bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and constipation — have been reported.
Very rarely, one patient reported a dry cough. There have been rare cases of Bifidobacterium bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream) in critically ill or premature infants, though this is uncommon.
B. bifidum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation; B. longum is rated possibly safe for both; and B. breve's safety data in pregnancy and lactation are limited — talk with your pediatrician before use if you're breastfeeding, since the evidence is sparse.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If your baby is taking antibiotic drugs, don't give this probiotic at the same time — the antibiotics will kill the live organisms and defeat the purpose. Separate the doses by a few hours, and check with your pediatrician or pharmacist on the best timing.
No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Jarro-Dophilus Baby is a multi-strain probiotic powder designed for infants. Some of its strains show promise for specific digestive and respiratory uses, though the overall evidence is mixed.
The main thing to watch: if your baby is on antibiotics, space out the doses so the antibiotic doesn't kill the live probiotic organisms. Talk with your pediatrician before starting, especially if your baby has a weakened immune system, is premature, or if you're wondering whether it's right for your child's particular situation.

Jarro-Dophilus Baby by Jarrow Formulas Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Jarro-Dophilus Baby contains three probiotic strains with documented interactions: B. longum BB536, B. breve M-16V, and B. bifidum Bb-02.
The most serious concern is a Moderate interaction with antibiotic drugs. Since these probiotics contain live organisms, taking antibiotics at the same time might kill a significant number of them, reducing the probiotic's effectiveness.
The solution is straightforward: space out your doses by separating when you give antibiotics from when you give this product.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Additionally, we couldn't check three other ingredients in this formula — galacto-oligosaccharides, L. casei R0215, and L. rhamnosus Lr-32 — because we hold no interaction data for them. B. animalis lactis BL-04 was also not checked.
That doesn't mean they interact with medications; it means the data aren't on file with us.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. Before you start this powder, run your child's exact medications through the interaction checker on this page to see if any of them fall into the antibiotic category or if there's anything else you should know.
