What’s inside

Partial disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Partial

Most active ingredients list an amount, but at least one is hidden in a blend or missing.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 2 active ingredients.

This product contains two active ingredients: Saccharomyces boulardii, a beneficial yeast strain, and Bio-MOS, a prebiotic compound. Saccharomyces boulardii is designed to support digestive health by maintaining healthy gut flora, particularly in situations where diarrhea or digestive upset occurs.

The product also includes inactive ingredients—tapioca starch, silicon dioxide, vitamin C, and a capsule material called DRCaps—that help deliver the active components.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: probiotic support for intestinal tract health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Clostridioides difficile infection, Crohn disease, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Rotaviral diarrhea, Travelers' diarrhea — and 3 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Saccharomyces Boulardii is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Saccharomyces Boulardii is rated "Possibly Effective" for Rotaviral diarrhea, Travelers' diarrhea, Clostridioides difficile infection.
  • Also on file: Saccharomyces Boulardii is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Crohn disease, Ulcerative colitis, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Saccharomyces boulardii is possibly effective for several types of diarrhea: rotavirus-related diarrhea, travelers' diarrhea, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and infection with Clostridioides difficile. It's also possibly effective for two other gastrointestinal conditions: necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in infants and Helicobacter pylori infection.

The evidence we hold does not establish Bio-MOS's effectiveness for any condition.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Saccharomyces boulardii is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. However, the safety data advises against use if you're critically ill or have a weakened immune system—there's a rare but documented risk of the yeast entering the bloodstream (fungemia) in these populations, especially in intensive care settings or if you have central catheters.

A small number of people have reported gastrointestinal complaints like abdominal cramps, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, or decreased appetite. There isn't enough data on file for Bio-MOS to know its safety profile.

Pregnancy and lactation safety data for this product isn't on file—talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Meds to double-check

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Saccharomyces Boulardii.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 40 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Antifungal medications are the main concern. Because Saccharomyces boulardii is a live yeast, antifungals could reduce how well this supplement works.

Use the search tool on this page to check your specific antifungal drug, then ask your pharmacist whether you should take them at different times or hold the supplement while you're on antifungal treatment.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This supplement is worth considering if you have diarrhea from antibiotics, travel, or rotavirus and you're otherwise healthy with a normal immune system. Skip it if you're critically ill or immunocompromised.

Before you start, check with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you take antifungal medications—timing your doses matters.

Saccharomyces Boulardii+MOS contains the probiotic yeast Saccharomyces boulardii, which survives passage through stomach acid and delivers its benefits to the intestinal tract. This strain helps protect and maintain a normal intestinal microflora. It also works to restore the normal intestinal microflora when possible disruptions may occur, such as during travel or the intake of certain medications. MOS (MannanOligoSaccharides) is an oligosaccharide from the cell walls of S. cerevisiae that can discourage bacteria from adhering to the epithelial cells and reduce their proliferation.
