HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Junior Probiotics With DDS-1 by Multi Flora Probiotics
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This powder contains 3 active probiotic ingredients: L. acidophilus DDS-1 (a well-studied strain of beneficial bacteria), B. lactis, and a proprietary blend of additional probiotic cultures. These are live microorganisms meant to support gut health.
The product also includes rice dextrin, fructooligosaccharide (a prebiotic fiber that feeds probiotics), and silica as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L. acidophilus DDS-1 is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. For atopic disease (allergic conditions), the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective.
For acute respiratory distress syndrome, there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it either way. The other ingredients in this product haven't been rated in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L. acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, because it contains live microorganisms, there is a theoretical risk of infection in vulnerable patients — cases of bacteremia, sepsis, and other serious infections have been documented in the medical literature, though most occurred in people with existing health conditions.
Common side effects are uncommon but can include stomach discomfort, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, and burping when taken with other probiotics. If you have a weakened immune system, are hospitalized, or have serious illness, talk with your doctor before starting this product.
Data on use in pregnancy is limited; there isn't enough information to know whether it's safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotics are the key medication type to separate from this product. Taking them at the same time will reduce the probiotic's effectiveness because the antibiotic will kill the live cultures.
Space them out by a few hours — your doctor or pharmacist can help with the best schedule for you.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help with certain digestive and infection-related conditions, though evidence is mixed. The main caution is timing it away from antibiotics — they'll cancel each other out.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a compromised immune system, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. Run your medications through our search tool to catch any interactions with your specific prescriptions.
