Kyo-Dophilus Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Kyo-Dophilus
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Kyo-Dophilus against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Kyo-Dophilus by Kyo-Dophilus
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Kyo-Dophilus has three active probiotic ingredients: Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum, and Lactobacillus gasseri. These are live beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut health.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—gelatin, potato starch, and silica—that help hold the product together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these three strains is mixed. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and respiratory tract infections, but for other conditions the evidence is too thin to say.
Bifidobacterium longum and Lactobacillus gasseri have insufficient reliable evidence for the conditions studied so far—we don't have enough data to know whether they work. That doesn't mean they won't help you; it means larger or better studies are needed.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy people. That said, if you have a weakened immune system or are seriously ill, be cautious and check with your doctor first.
Bloating and flatulence have been reported with probiotics in general, though rarely with these specific strains. Rare cases of bacterial blood infection (bacteremia) have occurred in critically ill patients, especially newborns, but these are uncommon.
Bifidobacterium longum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation, but the other two don't have enough safety data—talk to your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
The main thing to watch for: antibiotic drugs. Because these are live bacteria, antibiotics taken at the same time can reduce how well the probiotic works.
Separate your doses by a few hours, and let your pharmacist know you're taking this product alongside any antibiotics.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Kyo-Dophilus is a straightforward three-strain probiotic that may help with IBS and respiratory infections, though evidence is limited for many other uses. If you take antibiotics, space out the doses so they don't cancel each other out.
If you have a weakened immune system or are seriously ill, check with your doctor before starting. Talk to your pharmacist about timing if you're on any medications.

Kyo-Dophilus by Kyo-Dophilus Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Kyo-Dophilus contains three probiotic bacteria strains, and they all interact with the same medication type.
The most serious concern is with antibiotic drugs: because these probiotics are made of live organisms, taking antibiotics at the same time can kill off a significant portion of the beneficial bacteria, making the supplement less effective. The interaction is rated Moderate.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
All three ingredients—Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum, and Lactobacillus gasseri—carry this same antibiotic interaction. The solution is straightforward: separate when you take them.
Your pharmacist or doctor can help you space out doses so the antibiotic and the probiotic aren't working against each other.
Always check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before you start.

Bifidobacterium bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus gasseri with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. gasseri.
Lactobacillus gasseri preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. gasseri preparations by at least two hours.
