What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking L-Arginine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: L-arginine, an amino acid that your body uses to make nitric oxide, a compound that relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, gelatin, and titanium dioxide — which are fillers and binders that hold the supplement together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The data we hold contains no effectiveness ratings for L-arginine in this product. While the interaction facts mention that L-arginine may lower blood pressure and blood sugar in some people, we don't have formal evidence ratings on file to tell you how well it works for any specific purpose.
Talk with your doctor about what research supports using it for your particular reason.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Arginine taken by mouth is generally well tolerated in the short term, but the safety data advises caution — it can lower blood pressure and isn't safe for everyone. The most common side effects from oral doses include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, headache, insomnia, and flushing.
The data notes that use should happen only under medical supervision, as safety for self-treatment isn't well established. Because the evidence on long-term safety isn't solid, it's best avoided unless your doctor recommends it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this L-Arginine, double-check these medication types with your doctor or pharmacist: ACE inhibitors and ARBs (highest risk for low blood pressure and high potassium), other blood pressure medications, blood thinners, potassium-sparing diuretics, diabetes medications, sildenafil, and isoproterenol. All carry moderate risk.
Don't start this supplement without confirming your medications are safe to combine with it.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-Arginine is worth considering only if your doctor has reviewed it alongside your specific medications and medical history — it has too many documented interactions to take on your own. If you take any blood pressure medication, blood thinner, diabetes drug, potassium-sparing diuretic, or heart medication, you need to clear this with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting.
The short-term side effects are usually mild, but the lack of long-term safety data makes medical supervision important.

L-Arginine by GNC Mega Men Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Arginine by GNC Mega Men interacts with a significant number of medications through its effects on blood pressure, potassium levels, and blood clotting.
The most serious concerns are with blood pressure medications and potassium-regulating drugs, where combining L-arginine can raise the risk of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension) or high potassium levels (hyperkalemia).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll need to be especially careful if you take ACE inhibitors (like lisinopril) or ARBs (like losartan) — L-arginine can amplify their blood-pressure-lowering effects and increase potassium buildup. Blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin), potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that spare potassium), and other blood pressure medications all carry moderate risk of additive effects.
Diabetes medications and sildenafil (Viagra) may also be affected, as L-arginine can lower blood sugar and enhance vasodilation respectively.
Isoproterenol (a heart medication) is another medication type to flag — combined use might cause extra-large blood pressure drops. Altogether, these interactions span 403 individual medications.
Check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before starting L-arginine, and review them with your doctor or pharmacist — especially if you're on any heart, blood pressure, or diabetes medication.

For each ingredient in L-Arginine with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
L-Arginine
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and ACE inhibitors may increase the risk for hypotension and hyperkalemia.
Combining L-arginine with some antihypertensive drugs, especially ACE inhibitors, seems to have additive vasodilating and blood pressure-lowering effects. Furthermore, ACE inhibitors can increase potassium levels. Use of L-arginine has been associated with hyperkalemia in some patients. Theoretically, concomitant use of ACE inhibitors with L-arginine may increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and ARBs may increase the risk of hypotension and hyperkalemia.
L-arginine increases nitric oxide, which causes vasodilation. Combining L-arginine with ARBs seems to increase L-arginine-induced vasodilation. Furthermore, ARBs can increase potassium levels. Use of L-arginine has been associated with hyperkalemia in some patients. Theoretically, concomitant use of ARBs with L-arginine may increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
Preliminary research suggests that L-arginine infusions reduce platelet aggregation in humans. The clinical significance of this effect is unclear.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Preliminary clinical research shows that L-arginine decreases blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and antihypertensive drugs may increase the risk of hypotension.
L-arginine increases nitric oxide, which causes vasodilation. Clinical evidence shows that L-arginine can reduce blood pressure in some individuals with hypertension. Furthermore, combining L-arginine with some antihypertensive drugs seems to have additive vasodilating and blood pressure-lowering effects.
Isoproterenol (Isuprel)
Theoretically, concurrent use of isoproterenol and L-arginine might result in additive effects and hypotension.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that L-arginine enhances isoproterenol-induced vasodilation in patients with essential hypertension or a family history of essential hypertension.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically concomitant use of potassium-sparing diuretics with L-arginine may increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Potassium-sparing diuretics can increase potassium levels. Use of L-arginine has been associated with hyperkalemia in some patients.
Sildenafil (Viagra)
Theoretically, concurrent use of sildenafil and L-arginine might increase the risk for hypotension.
In vivo, concurrent use of L-arginine and sildenafil has resulted in increased vasodilation. Theoretically, concurrent use might have additive vasodilatory and hypotensive effects. However, in studies evaluating the combined use of L-arginine and sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, hypotension was not reported.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine and testosterone might have additive effects.
In clinical research, L-arginine increases the level of testosterone in male patients with erectile dysfunction. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
