Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product has 2 active ingredients: vitamin B6 and L-Lysine at 500 mg per capsule. Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin that helps your body convert food into energy and supports nerve and immune function.
L-Lysine is an amino acid (a protein building block) your body needs but cannot make — you get it from food and supplements. The capsule itself is made from cellulose with silica and magnesium stearate as inactive ingredients (excipients that help form and stabilize the capsule).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Vitamin B6 in this product is effective for treating sideroblastic anemia and B6 deficiency itself, and likely effective for high homocysteine levels. It's possibly effective for pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting, but only under a doctor's guidance.
L-Lysine is possibly effective for cold sores (herpes labialis). The evidence isn't established for its use in child growth, pressure ulcers, or diabetic foot ulcers.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B6 is well tolerated in doses under 100 mg daily. Common side effects at standard doses are rare but can include headache, heartburn, nausea, or stomach pain.
High doses over time — especially totaling 1,000 grams or more, or daily doses above 1,000 mg — can cause nerve damage (sensory neuropathy), though it can occur at lower amounts too. L-Lysine is generally well tolerated at typical doses; stomach upset (diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion) is the most common complaint.
One case of kidney inflammation progressing to kidney failure has been reported with oral lysine, though this is rare. Long-term safety of L-Lysine supplements isn't well studied.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, check your medications against these types: antiseizure drugs like phenytoin (Dilantin) and phenobarbital (Luminal) — high-dose B6 may weaken them; antihypertensive (blood pressure) drugs — B6 may add to their effect; amiodarone (Cordarone), a heart medication — B6 may worsen light sensitivity; levodopa for Parkinson's (unless you're also on carbidopa); and 5-HT4 agonists used for GI conditions. Use the search tool on this page to check your exact list with your doctor or pharmacist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product pairs a B vitamin with an amino acid used mainly for cold sores. Vitamin B6 is the ingredient most likely to interact with your medications, particularly blood pressure drugs, antiseizure medications, and amiodarone.
If you take any prescription drugs, especially phenytoin, phenobarbital, or blood pressure meds, check them against our medication tool before starting. Talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure it's right for you.

L-Lysine Caps 500 mg by Country Life Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Lysine Caps 500 mg by Country Life contains vitamin B6, which does interact with several medications.
The most serious concerns are with antiseizure drugs (phenytoin and phenobarbital) — high doses of vitamin B6 may reduce how well these medications work by speeding up how your body clears them. This product also contains vitamin B6 at a level where you should be cautious pairing it with blood pressure medications, since B6 may add to their effect and lower your pressure further.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Vitamin B6 in this formula may also increase the light sensitivity caused by amiodarone, a heart rhythm medication. If you take levodopa for Parkinson's disease without carbidopa (Sinemet), vitamin B6 can reduce how well it works — though the interaction doesn't happen if you're already taking carbidopa with it.
The L-Lysine in this product interacts with 5-HT4 agonists, a class of drugs used for certain GI conditions; animal research suggests lysine may reduce their effect.
Altogether, these interactions span 211 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to see if any of yours are affected before you start.

For each ingredient in L-Lysine Caps 500 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Vitamin B6
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Theoretically, vitamin B6 might increase the photosensitivity caused by amiodarone.
Despite initial case reports suggesting that pyridoxine may have a protective effect against amiodarone-induced photosensitivity, preliminary clinical research suggests that pyridoxine may actually exacerbate this adverse effect.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, vitamin B6 may have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Research in hypertensive rats shows that vitamin B6 can decrease systolic blood pressure. Similarly, clinical research in patients with hypertension shows that taking high doses of vitamin B6 may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, possibly by reducing plasma levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine.
Phenobarbital (Luminal)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenobarbital.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenobarbital, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenobarbital to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Phenytoin (Dilantin)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenytoin.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenytoin, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenytoin to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Levodopa
Vitamin B6 may increase the metabolism of levodopa when taken alone, but not when taken in conjunction with carbidopa.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) enhances the metabolism of levodopa, reducing its clinical effects. However, this interaction does not occur when carbidopa is used concurrently with levodopa (Sinemet). Therefore, it is not likely to be a problem in most people.
L-Lysine
5-Ht4 Agonists
Theoretically, lysine may reduce the effects of 5-HT4 agonists.
Animal research suggests that L-lysine is a partial serotonin receptor 4 (5-HT4) antagonist and inhibits diarrhea induced by the 5-HT4 agonist, 5-hydroxytryptophane.
