What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Lovage against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Lovage by Hawaii Pharm
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic lovage root in liquid extract form. Lovage is a traditional herb used in some preparations, though the evidence supporting its effectiveness for any specific condition is limited in our data.
The liquid also contains vegetable palm glycerin and alcohol as inactive ingredients to preserve and deliver the extract.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The data we hold doesn't establish that lovage is effective for diabetic nephropathy (kidney damage from diabetes). The evidence available is insufficient to rate its usefulness for that or any other condition.
If you're considering lovage for a health concern, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether there's reliable evidence it'll help.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lovage from food amounts is generally well tolerated, but this is a concentrated extract — safety data for it is limited. Long-term use carries a risk of phototoxic reactions, including increased sensitivity to sun and UV light; avoid excessive sun exposure if you use this product.
Topical contact with lovage can also cause photosensitivity or contact dermatitis. Lovage is not recommended in pregnancy — the safety data advises against it because it may stimulate the uterus and affect menstrual flow.
There isn't enough safety data to use it while breastfeeding; talk with your doctor before considering it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take any diuretic (water pill) — such as furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, or chlorthalidone — check with your pharmacist before starting lovage. The combination could affect how well your diuretic works.
No other medication interactions are documented for the lovage in our data, but that's not a guarantee none exist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Lovage may appeal to someone interested in traditional herbal preparations, but the evidence supporting its effectiveness isn't established in our data. If you take a diuretic, you'll need to check with your pharmacist first.
Pregnant people and those breastfeeding should avoid it based on the safety data available.

Lovage by Hawaii Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Hawaii Pharm Lovage is a single-ingredient liquid extract that does interact with medications — specifically diuretics (water pills).
Lovage root has aquaretic effects, meaning it promotes water loss from the body. If you're taking a diuretic like furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), chlorothiazide (Diuril), or chlorthalidone (Thalitone), adding lovage could theoretically interfere with how well your medication works or throw off your fluid and electrolyte balance — a Moderate-severity concern.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 75 individual medications.
Beyond diuretics, we have no other documented interactions for lovage in our data. That doesn't mean none exist — it means we haven't found evidence of them.
If you take any diuretic or other prescription medications, run them through the checker below before you start.
