Mega Chromium Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Mega Chromium against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Mega Chromium by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Mega Chromium is a single-ingredient supplement with chromium as its active ingredient. Chromium is an essential mineral that plays a role in how your body manages blood sugar and uses insulin.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, gelatin, and magnesium stearate — which are binders and fillers that hold the supplement together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is rated likely effective for treating chromium deficiency, which is rare but can occur with certain medical conditions or medications. For type 2 diabetes and blood sugar control, the evidence is mixed — it's rated possibly effective for diabetes itself, meaning some research supports it but more study is needed.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the evidence doesn't support benefit, so these uses are rated possibly ineffective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects are mild — gastrointestinal upset, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes.
Skin rashes and itching have also been reported. Rare but serious effects include kidney or liver damage and low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia), though these are uncommon.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, small amounts from food or a prenatal vitamin are considered acceptable, but extra chromium supplements should be avoided unless your doctor specifically recommends them. There isn't enough safety data on higher doses in pregnancy, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, double-check if you take insulin or antidiabetes drugs — chromium may amplify their effect and lower your blood sugar too much (Moderate severity). Also flag levothyroxine (thyroid hormone) — chromium can reduce how much gets absorbed (Moderate severity).
NSAIDs and aspirin may increase chromium levels in your body, though this is a minor concern.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Mega Chromium makes sense if you have a chromium deficiency or want to explore it for type 2 diabetes — but it's not proven for prediabetes or other conditions. If you take insulin, diabetes medications, thyroid hormone, or regular pain relievers, check with your pharmacist first.
It's generally well tolerated, but watch for stomach upset or mood changes.

Mega Chromium by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Mega Chromium by Wonder Laboratories contains one active ingredient — chromium — that does interact with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with insulin and antidiabetes drugs (blood sugar medications). Chromium may increase how sensitive your body is to insulin and may lower blood glucose levels on its own, which means taking it alongside these drugs could raise your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
If you take insulin or diabetes medications, you'll want to monitor your blood sugar closely.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also interacts with levothyroxine (thyroid hormone), a Moderate-severity interaction. Research shows chromium can bind to levothyroxine in your gut and reduce how much your body absorbs — one study found a 17% drop in blood levels when the two were taken together.
You can limit this by spacing them apart; your pharmacist or doctor can advise on the right timing.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen, as well as aspirin, may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and retains — these are Minor-severity interactions. Altogether, these interactions span 177 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Mega Chromium with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
