Mega Probiotic ND contains 9 active ingredients: five Bifidobacterium species (B. animalis lactis, B. longum, B. bifidum, B. breve), three Lactobacillus species (L. casei, L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus), and Streptococcus thermophilus—plus a prebiotic fiber called Fructooligosaccharides that may feed the beneficial bacteria. All of these are live, active probiotic organisms meant to support your gut.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, cellulose, and ascorbyl palmitate (a form of vitamin C used as a preservative).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for most of these probiotics is incomplete. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, H. pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. For the other strains and conditions in the product—including constipation, diabetes, allergic rhinitis, anxiety, and cognitive decline—the data we hold rates them as insufficient evidence to rate, meaning we don't have enough reliable studies yet.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics here are generally well tolerated in healthy people, though caution is advised if you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system—in rare cases, these bacteria have caused infection in critically ill or immunocompromised patients. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: FOS (the prebiotic fiber) may cause gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and flatulence, especially at higher doses, though studies suggest doses under 10 grams daily are mild.
Rare reports with the bacterial strains include abdominal discomfort, flatulence, and in one case a dry cough. Pregnancy and breastfeeding data are limited; Bifidobacterium longum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy, but safety data for the others isn't on file.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium longum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. longum.
Since B. longum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. longum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Bifidobacterium bifidum UABb-10
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Lactobacillus acidophilus UALa-01
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
