MegaFlora Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by MegaFood
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking MegaFlora Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
MegaFlora Probiotic contains 14 active ingredients — a blend of live beneficial bacteria strains designed to support gut health. The active strains include several Lactobacillus species (casei, plantarum, salivarius, brevis, bulgaricus, gasseri, acidophilus, and rhamnosus), Bifidobacterium species (longum, infantis, lactis, and bifidum), Lactococcus lactis, and Streptococcus thermophilus.
These are combined in a capsule with inactive ingredients: hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, L-leucine, and silicon dioxide.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for most uses in this product is not established in our data. Lactobacillus acidophilus shows possibly effective ratings for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections. For most other conditions listed in the individual strain studies — such as allergies, asthma, colds, and constipation — the evidence is rated insufficient to make a clear call.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotic strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, because they contain live organisms, caution is warranted for people with severely weakened immune systems, critical illness, indwelling catheters, or recent surgery — there are rare documented cases of bacterial infection (bacteremia or sepsis) in these high-risk groups.
Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort have been reported rarely. For Bifidobacterium longum, pregnancy is rated possibly safe; for Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum, pregnancy is also rated possibly safe.
Data on lactation is limited for most strains — check with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, do not take this product at the same time — antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in the probiotic and make it ineffective. Space your doses several hours apart and discuss the timing with your doctor or pharmacist.
No other medication interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
MegaFlora Probiotic is a multi-strain probiotic aimed at supporting digestive and immune function, with the strongest evidence for irritable bowel syndrome and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The main thing to watch is timing with antibiotics — they need to be separated by several hours.
If you're seriously ill, have a weakened immune system, or have had recent surgery, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product. For any other questions about how it fits with your health situation or medications, check with your own healthcare provider.

MegaFlora Probiotic by MegaFood Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
MegaFood's MegaFlora Probiotic contains several live bacterial strains, and through its Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus gasseri, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Bifidobacterium bifidum content, it has a documented Moderate interaction with antibiotic drugs.
Since these probiotic preparations contain living organisms, taking antibiotics at the same time may kill a significant number of them and reduce their effectiveness. The interaction is avoidable by spacing doses — antibiotics and this product should be taken several hours apart, not simultaneously.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Additionally, we could not check four other bacterial strains in this product (Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactococcus lactis, Bifidobacterium infantis, and Bifidobacterium lactis) because we hold no interaction data for them. One strain, Streptococcus thermophilus, was checked and no interactions are documented for it in our data.
Additionally, no interactions are documented in our data for the checked ingredients beyond antibiotics. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
