This product contains a single active ingredient: L-lysine, an amino acid your body uses to build and repair tissues, including those involved in immune function and collagen formation. The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — calcium carbonate, vegetable cellulose, vegetable stearic acid, silica, vegetable magnesium stearate, and vanillin — which serve as fillers, binders, and capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-lysine is possibly effective for herpes labialis (cold sores) based on available evidence. The data we hold does not establish effectiveness for child growth, pressure ulcers, or diabetic foot ulcers — the evidence on those is insufficient to rate them.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-lysine is generally well tolerated at typical doses. At higher amounts, it may cause stomach upset, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, and indigestion.
Long-term safety hasn't been thoroughly studied. For pregnancy, lysine from food is fine, but the safety of taking it as a supplement hasn't been well studied — check with your doctor first.
There isn't enough reliable information on supplement use while breastfeeding, so caution is advised. There is also one case report of high-dose oral lysine linked to kidney inflammation that progressed to chronic kidney failure, though this is rare.

Clinical research shows that some casein peptides, including the lactotripeptides isoleucine-proline-proline (IPP) and valine-proline-proline (VPP), can modestly reduce blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

Animal research suggests that L-lysine is a partial serotonin receptor 4 (5-HT4) antagonist and inhibits diarrhea induced by the 5-HT4 agonist, 5-hydroxytryptophane.
