What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.

Nattozimes 195 mg contains one active ingredient: nattokinase, an enzyme derived from natto (fermented soybeans). It's also formulated with hypromellose, maltodextrin, and medium chain triglycerides as inactive ingredients to hold the capsule together and aid absorption.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Nattokinase's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Promotes healthy circulation and cardiovascular health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Angina, Atherosclerosis, Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Nattokinase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Angina (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Nattokinase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Atherosclerosis, Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, and more.

The evidence for nattokinase isn't established yet. Our data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for angina, atherosclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or chronic fatigue syndrome.

While some clinical research hints that nattokinase may reduce blood pressure, that's not the same as proof it works for any specific condition. If you're considering it for a particular health goal, talk it over with your doctor about what the current evidence shows.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Nattokinase is generally well tolerated over short periods, but its blood-thinning effect means you should be cautious if you have any bleeding risk. Rare reports of bleeding — including one case of brain hemorrhage — have been linked to nattokinase, especially when combined with aspirin or other blood thinners.

Hypersensitivity reactions, including severe throat swelling and anaphylaxis, have also been reported in people sensitive to natto or its components. There isn't enough safety data to use nattokinase during pregnancy, so it's best avoided.

Safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so avoid it during that time too. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

Meds to double-check

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Nattokinase.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 289 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking Nattozimes, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin, dabigatran, apixaban, or aspirin) or blood pressure medications (antihypertensives). Both interactions are Moderate in severity, and combining nattokinase with blood thinners carries a documented risk of serious bleeding.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Nattozimes may be worth considering if you're interested in nattokinase and have no bleeding risk or blood pressure concerns — but the evidence for what it actually does is still limited. If you take any blood thinner or blood pressure medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Pregnant or breastfeeding? Skip it and talk with your healthcare provider.

Because of the bleeding risk, anyone with a personal or family history of bleeding disorders should also clear it first.

Nattozimes 195 mg by Swanson: Common Questions

Does Nattozimes 195 mg by Swanson interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Nattozimes 195 mg has a known interaction with 289 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Nattozimes 195 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take Nattozimes if I'm on aspirin?
No — not without checking with your doctor first. Nattokinase has blood-thinning effects similar to aspirin, and there's a documented case of brain bleeding when someone combined nattokinase with low-dose aspirin. Your doctor needs to know about both before you use them together.
Can I take Nattozimes if I'm on blood pressure medication?
Possibly, but only after talking with your doctor. Nattokinase may lower blood pressure on its own, so adding it to blood pressure medication could drop your blood pressure too much. Your doctor can advise whether it's safe in your situation.
What is nattokinase?
Nattokinase is an enzyme that comes from natto, a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans. It has blood-thinning properties and some early research suggests it may lower blood pressure, but we don't yet have solid proof it works for any specific condition.
Can I take Nattozimes while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. There isn't enough safety data to use it during pregnancy, so it's best avoided. Safety while breastfeeding is also unknown, so avoid it then too. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what's right for you.
Does Nattozimes have any side effects?
Most people tolerate it well over short term. Rare reports of bleeding have been linked to it, especially when combined with blood thinners. Some people sensitive to natto can have hypersensitivity reactions, including throat swelling or anaphylaxis, usually within 2 hours of taking it.
What does Nattozimes treat?
Right now, we don't have reliable evidence that nattokinase works for any specific condition — including heart disease, blocked arteries, cancer, or fatigue. The evidence is still too limited to say. If you're thinking about it for a health concern, ask your doctor what the current research shows.
