Nucleotide Complex 500 contains 4 active ingredients: a nucleotide blend, a nucleotide complex, adenosine, and cytidine. Nucleotides are the building blocks your cells use to make and repair DNA and RNA.
Adenosine is a chemical messenger your body produces naturally; in supplement form it's been studied for heart rhythm and cardiovascular diagnostic purposes. Cytidine (also called citicoline) is involved in brain cell structure and signaling.
The capsule itself is made from vegetable material, with vegetable magnesium stearate as an inactive ingredient.

Not established
Adenosine in this product has been studied for paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia — a type of fast heart rhythm — and for cardiovascular disease diagnosis, where it's been rated effective. Cytidine shows possibly effective evidence for age-related cognitive decline and glaucoma, but the evidence for stroke is possibly ineffective, and there isn't enough data to rate it for Alzheimer disease, traumatic brain injury, or cardiac arrest.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Adenosine given by IV in a medical setting is powerful and carries cardiovascular and respiratory risks — chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, flushing, and headache are common; serious effects like arrhythmias and cardiac arrest, though rare, have occurred. As an oral supplement, adenosine hasn't had thorough safety evaluation, so caution is warranted and it's best avoided.
Cytidine is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety data is limited. For pregnancy: there isn't enough data to know whether adenosine is safe, so avoid it.
Cytidine also lacks safety data in pregnancy and should be avoided. Neither should be used while breastfeeding due to insufficient safety information.

If you're on dipyridamole (Persantine) for heart conditions, stop and talk to your doctor before this product — the interaction is serious and requires medical supervision. Carbamazepine (Tegretol) users should also clear it first because of heart block risk.
