Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: pau d'arco, a South American tree bark extract at 500 mg per capsule. It's been used traditionally for several purposes, though modern evidence is limited.
The capsule itself is made of gelatin, an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for pau d'arco isn't established in the data we hold. The product lists four potential uses—cancer, peptic ulcers, wound healing, and dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cramps)—but for all four, the rating is insufficient reliable evidence to rate, meaning we don't have enough solid clinical data to say whether it works for any of them.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pau d'arco is generally well tolerated at typical doses, but the safety data comes with important caveats. The ingredient's safety profile depends on dose: the lapachol it contains can cause anemia, increased bleeding risk, severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea at doses above 1.5 grams daily.
Human safety data overall is limited, and at higher doses caution is advised. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are both off-limits.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy due to possible harm to the developing baby and lack of safety information. There isn't enough data to know if it's safe while breastfeeding, so you should avoid it in that setting too and talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start pau d'arco, double-check if you take any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs—that includes warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, and similar medications. The product carries a Moderate risk of increased bleeding with these drugs.
If you're on any anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy, confirm with your pharmacist or doctor that it's safe to combine.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pau d'Arco 500 mg may be worth considering if you're exploring traditional remedies, but the evidence for what it does isn't solid yet. The main concern is interaction with blood thinners—if you take any anticoagulant or antiplatelet drug, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this.

Pau d'Arco 500 mg by tnvitamins Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pau d'Arco 500 mg by tnvitamins does interact with one major medication group: blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs.
Through its lapachol constituent, pau d'arco may reduce platelet aggregation (the clumping that stops bleeding) and interfere with vitamin K, which is crucial for blood clotting. The result is a Moderate risk of increased bleeding when combined with anticoagulants like warfarin or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although this product supplies 500 mg per capsule, the adverse effects linked to pau d'arco appear primarily at higher doses—above 1.5 grams daily of the lapachol component—which can trigger anemia, severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as worsen bleeding risk. At the single-capsule dose you're taking, those effects are less likely, but the interaction with blood thinners remains a concern regardless of dose.
Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications. If you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet medication, run it through the checker below or talk with your pharmacist before starting this product.

Pau d'Arco
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, pau d'arco might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that pau d'arco reduces platelet aggregation and may interfere with vitamin K. One clinical study shows that taking the lapachol constituent of pau d'arco in doses above 1.5 grams daily increases the risk of bleeding. The effects of whole pau d'arco or pau d'arco extract in humans are unclear.
