What’s inside
Low disclosure
This liquid contains one active ingredient: pau d'arco, a tree bark extract used in herbal medicine. The liquid itself is made with 70% grain alcohol and purified water as inactive carriers.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for pau d'arco isn't established. We have insufficient reliable data to know whether it works for cancer, peptic ulcers, wound healing, or dysmenorrhea—the conditions most commonly listed for it.
If you're considering it for one of these reasons, talk it over with your doctor about whether the evidence supports it for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pau d'arco is generally well tolerated at standard doses, but human safety data is limited. At higher doses—specifically, if the lapachol content exceeds 1.5 grams daily—it may cause anemia, severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and increased bleeding risk.
Do not use pau d'arco during pregnancy; the safety data advises against it due to possible harm to a developing baby. There isn't enough safety information for breastfeeding, so avoid it then as well.
If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Pau D'Arco, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel. Pau d'arco may raise your bleeding risk with these medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pau d'arco may be worth considering if you're interested in herbal remedies, but the evidence for its benefits isn't clear. The main caution is its interaction with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs—a moderate-severity concern.
If you take any blood-thinning medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this. Avoid it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Pau D'Arco by Herbs Etc. Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pau D'Arco by Herbs Etc. does interact with medications—specifically, blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel).
The concern is moderate severity: pau d'arco may increase your bleeding risk when combined with these drugs. Research shows that pau d'arco reduces how well platelets clump together and may interfere with vitamin K, which your body uses to form clots.
At higher doses of its active compound (lapachol), above 1.5 grams daily, the bleeding risk appears to rise.
