Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body makes naturally and uses for muscle repair, immune function, and gut health. It's presented as a powder so you can mix it with water or your favorite drink.

Does it work?

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Muscle recovery and athletic performance.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Exercise-induced muscle damage, Postoperative recovery, Wound healing, Critical illness (trauma), Oral mucositis — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for HIV/AIDS-related wasting (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Critical illness (trauma), Postoperative recovery.
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance, Radiation-induced diarrhea.

L-glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease. The evidence suggests it may help with HIV/AIDS-related wasting, recovery after surgery, and trauma or critical illness, though the data for these uses is less complete.

If you're considering it for a specific health concern, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether the evidence supports its use in your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-glutamine is generally well tolerated by healthy adults. Common side effects from oral doses include belching, bloating, gas, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, and belly pain — especially at higher doses (10–30 grams daily).

Headache and dizziness have been reported, and rare cases of mood changes (mania or hypomania) were noted in people with bipolar disorder taking up to 4 grams daily. If you have kidney or liver disease, use this only under medical supervision.

There isn't enough safety data to recommend supplement doses during pregnancy, so talk with your doctor first. Similarly, safety data for breastfeeding is limited — check with your clinician before taking supplemental amounts.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Glutamine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: seizure medications.
  • For scale: 50 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check whether you're on anticonvulsant medications (seizure-prevention drugs) — glutamine may theoretically interfere with how they work, though this hasn't been seen in humans. Use the medication checker below to look up your exact medications.

Our mission is to develop the most scientifically advanced and effective supplements to help you build muscle and strength, lose weight, and improve athletic performance. Thanks to our millions of loyal customers, we are fortunate to be the most-awarded and best-selling sports nutrition brand over the past 20 years. Many supplement companies do not disclose their ingredients, and don’t invest in science and research, or quality control. We are different.

Glutamine is the most abundant non-essential free amino acid in your body – more than 20% of the total circulating amino acids in your body are glutamine. Your muscles are especially high in glutamine, making it extremely important for muscle metabolism. When you’re training hard, your muscles can lose up to 50% of their glutamine stores, so you need to replace them – fast! Glutamine helps your body control catabolism by acting as a free nitrogen donor to help your muscles build the other amino acids they need to recover quickly. Glutamine also helps support increased cell volume, glycogen replenishment, and protein synthesis. Platinum 100% Glutamine is perfectly tasteless and odorless, and mixes effortlessly on its own or into any other product you’re already using. This non-stimulant formula stacks perfectly and can be used day or night

The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is L-glutamine and what does it do?
