Polyflora O contains 6 active ingredients: a probiotic blend made up of Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus rhamnosus (live beneficial bacteria), larch arabinogalactan (a plant fiber), banana powder, chicory root extract, and brewer's yeast. The evidence for Polyflora O's ingredients is limited. Streptococcus thermophilus has insufficient evidence to rate for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, bacterial vaginosis, fatty liver disease, constipation, and diabetes.
Banana powder is possibly effective for diarrhea, but the rest of the ingredients — larch arabinogalactan, chicory root, and brewer's yeast — do not have established evidence for the conditions listed in our data, or the evidence is insufficient to rate them. Brewer's yeast is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome.

Well-documented data
Streptococcus thermophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but people with weakened immune systems should be careful. There's some concern that live probiotic products could cause infection in severely ill or immunocompromised patients; however, healthy people with intact immune systems are at low risk.
Larch arabinogalactan is generally well tolerated as a fiber but may cause bloating and gas in some people; long-term safety data are limited, so talk with your doctor before taking it. Banana powder is well tolerated when eaten as food, though bloating, gas, and cramping can occur; rare serious effects include anaphylaxis and intestinal obstruction.
Chicory root is generally well tolerated in food amounts but may cause gas and trigger allergies in sensitive people; it may cause abdominal pain, bloating, or flatulence. Brewer's yeast is generally well tolerated short-term in most people but may cause gas or migraine-like headaches; there is rare concern about fungemia and anaphylaxis in sensitive individuals.

Probiotic Blend
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Brewer's Yeast
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (Maois)
Theoretically, taking brewer's yeast with MAOIs might increase the risk of hypertension.
Brewer's yeast contains tyramine. Taking brewer's yeast with MAOIs might increase the risk for hypertensive crisis.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking brewer's yeast with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking chromium-containing brewer's yeast can decrease levels of blood glucose in diabetic patients being treated with antidiabetes drugs.
Lithium
Theoretically, taking brewer's yeast with lithium might cause additive effects and side effects.
Some brewer's yeast products contains lithium.
Antifungals
Theoretically, taking antifungals with some brewer's yeast products might decrease the effectiveness of brewer's yeast.
Some brewer's yeast products contain live yeast. Therefore, simultaneously taking antifungals might kill a significant number of the organisms.
Larch Arabinogalactan
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, larch arabinogalactan might interfere with immunosuppression therapy due to immunostimulant effects. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and other drugs.
Chicory root extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chicory might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal and in vitro research shows that chicory extracts have antidiabetic effects.
Banana powder
Levodopa
Taking banana may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa.
A case report describes apparent wearing off in a patient with Parkinson disease after eating a banana every day. The wearing off subsided after removing dietary bananas.
