What’s inside
Low disclosure
This powder contains five active ingredients. Creatine monohydrate helps build muscle strength and athletic performance.
Caffeine anhydrous is a stimulant that boosts mental alertness and athletic performance. Schisandra Fruit Extract is included for its traditional uses, though the evidence for most of its claimed benefits isn't well established in our data.
L-Carnosine is a compound some take for muscle and athletic support, though evidence for its effectiveness is limited. The product also contains a Pre-Workout Ignition Matrix and a ShockATP Muscle Pump Matrix—branded ingredient blends whose individual components we cannot fully assess here.
The inactive ingredients are citric acid, malic acid, natural and artificial flavors, calcium silicate, sodium citrate, sucralose, acesulfame-potassium, and FD&C Red No. 40 Lake and Lake colorants.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Creatine monohydrate is possibly effective for muscle strength, athletic performance, sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss), and cerebral creatine deficiency syndromes. Caffeine anhydrous is likely effective for mental alertness and athletic performance, and effective for neonatal apnea and postoperative headache prevention.
For Schisandra and L-Carnosine, the evidence we hold doesn't support their use for the conditions listed—either it's rated insufficient or possibly ineffective. We don't have effectiveness data on file for the branded matrix blends or Arginine Blend.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Creatine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but those with kidney problems should be careful. Common side effects include dehydration, diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, muscle cramps, and water retention.
Rare serious effects include kidney inflammation and muscle breakdown. Caffeine in moderate doses is usually well tolerated; common effects are anxiety, insomnia, jitteriness, headache, nausea, and tremor.
High doses can cause serious side effects. Schisandra is generally well tolerated short term, but long-term safety data are limited.
Reported side effects include decreased appetite, heartburn, stomach upset, and hives. L-Carnosine is generally well tolerated in short-term studies with limited long-term data; side effects reported include decreased appetite, dry mouth, foot and joint pain, weight changes, and pneumonia.
Creatine and L-Carnosine should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Schisandra should be avoided in pregnancy (it may stimulate the uterus) and breastfeeding.
Caffeine should be limited in pregnancy—ask your doctor about safe amounts—and small amounts pass into breast milk with moderate intake usually considered acceptable.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Before you take this, double-check if you're on ephedrine (Major severity risk with caffeine), or on sedatives like pentobarbital, anticonvulsants like phenobarbital or carbamazepine, blood thinners like warfarin, diabetes medications, antifungals like voriconazole, immunosuppressants like tacrolimus, or any drug metabolized by your liver's CYP enzymes—the schisandra and caffeine can interfere with how your body clears them. Also check if you take dipyridamole before a stress test, clozapine, cimetidine, or quinolone antibiotics.
