The evidence for this product is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus, one of the named strains, is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
For most other conditions — including age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, anxiety, and asthma — the evidence we have for these strains is either insufficient or suggests they're possibly ineffective. Since this is a multi-strain blend, results may differ from single-strain studies.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The checked strains are generally well tolerated in healthy people, but caution is advised if you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system — rare cases of bloodstream infection (bacteremia) from these probiotics have been reported in critically ill infants and adults, and in preterm infants. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and rarely diarrhea or constipation have been reported.
One person reported a dry cough. For Bifidobacterium longum, the data rate it as possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation, but safety data overall are limited — talk with your doctor before use if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
