What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotic 55 Billion against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Probiotic 55 Billion contains 11 active ingredients — a mix of live beneficial bacteria (probiotics) and a prebiotic fiber to feed them. The bacterial strains include Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium longum, and fructooligosaccharide (FOS).
The capsules also contain stearic acid and hypromellose as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these probiotics varies by condition. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. For many other conditions — allergic rhinitis, asthma, anxiety, cognitive decline, and others — the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate them.
Fructooligosaccharide hasn't enough reliable evidence to rate for any condition listed. Talk with your doctor about whether this product fits your particular health goal.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in this blend are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, caution is advised for anyone who is seriously ill or has a weakened immune system — there are rare documented cases of these bacterial strains causing infection (bacteremia or sepsis) in critically ill infants and adults, particularly in premature infants.
Gastrointestinal side effects such as bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and flatulence can occur, especially when you first start; these are typically mild. For Lactobacillus acidophilus, pregnancy is rated possibly safe, and Bifidobacterium bifidum and Bifidobacterium longum are both rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation.
We don't hold specific pregnancy or lactation safety data for the other ingredients, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, space them away from this product — the antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in it and reduce its effectiveness. This is a Moderate-severity interaction across five of the product's ingredients.
We could not check four other bacterial strains in the blend for interactions, so if you're on any medications beyond antibiotics, use the checker on this page and confirm with your pharmacist or doctor.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have IBS or are recovering from antibiotics and want to restore good bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus or Bifidobacterium bifidum in this blend may be worth considering based on available evidence. Be cautious if you're critically ill or immunocompromised — talk to your doctor first.
If you take antibiotics regularly, you'll need to time this product carefully to avoid reducing its effectiveness. Check your exact medications with our tool, and run the plan by your own doctor or pharmacist before you start.

Probiotic 55 Billion by Trace Minerals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Probiotic 55 Billion by Trace Minerals contains five ingredients with documented interactions: Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium longum.
All five interact with antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity). Since these probiotics are live organisms, antibiotics taken at the same time can kill them and reduce their effectiveness.
You'll want to space out your antibiotics and this probiotic — your doctor or pharmacist can tell you the right timing.

We could not check four other ingredients in this product: Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus salivarius, and Lactobacillus casei. We hold no interaction data for them, so we can't say whether they interact with your medications or not.
One ingredient, fructooligosaccharide (a prebiotic fiber), was checked and has no interactions documented in our data. That doesn't guarantee none exist elsewhere, but it's not flagged here.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of your drugs are affected, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product if you take antibiotics regularly.
