HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic 70 Billion CFU by Nature's Base
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product delivers 11 active ingredients: four Bifidobacterium species (animalis lactis, longum, bifidum, and infantis), five Lactobacillus species (paracasei, rhamnosus, fermentum, plantarum, and acidophilus), Bacillus coagulans, and fructooligosaccharides (a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial gut bacteria). The total is 70 billion colony-forming units (CFU) of live microorganisms per capsule.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — rice flour, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, and gellan gum — which are binders, fillers, and capsule materials.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus shows possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and IBS. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections, while Bifidobacterium longum and the other Lactobacillus species lack reliable evidence for the conditions they've been studied in.
For many other uses listed in the research — including allergic rhinitis, anxiety, asthma, athletic performance, and cancer — the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate whether these ingredients work. Talk with your doctor about what you're hoping this supplement will do, so you can weigh whether the current evidence fits your goals.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The live bacteria in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, but gastrointestinal side effects like abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, and diarrhea have been reported — usually uncommonly and often mild. Fructooligosaccharides can cause gas and bloating, especially at higher doses, though studies suggest doses under 10 grams daily do not reliably increase these symptoms compared with placebo.
Rare cases of bacteremia and sepsis (blood infections) from probiotics have occurred in critically ill patients, preterm infants, and those with weakened immune systems or indwelling catheters. If you are seriously ill, immunocompromised, or caring for a high-risk infant, discuss probiotic use with your doctor first.
For pregnancy, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are each rated possibly safe, but we hold no pregnancy or lactation data for the other ingredients in this blend — talk with your doctor about whether to use it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotics, hold on before starting this product. Antibiotics can kill the live organisms in this formula and make it less effective — Moderate severity.
Your doctor or pharmacist can advise you on the best timing between doses. No other medication types show documented interactions with the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help if you have IBS, constipation, or antibiotic-associated diarrhea, but the evidence is modest and varies by strain. If you take antibiotics, you'll need to time your doses carefully — ask your pharmacist or doctor how to space them.
Healthy people generally tolerate it well, though gas and bloating can happen. If you're seriously ill, immunocompromised, pregnant, or breastfeeding, check with your doctor first.

Probiotic 70 Billion CFU by Nature's Base contains four live-organism ingredients that interact with antibiotics: Bifidobacterium longum, Bacillus coagulans, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus acidophilus.
The most serious concern is Moderate-severity: antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in this product, reducing how well it works. If you take an antibiotic, you'll want to space out when you take each one — your doctor or pharmacist can tell you the best timing.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
The other affected drug type is also antibiotics, which creates the same risk across all four ingredients. The good news is that if you're not on antibiotics, we hold no documented interactions for this product with other medication types.
We could not check several ingredients in this formula — Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus fermentum, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, and Lactobacillus plantarum — because we don't have interaction data on file for them.
