Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This capsule contains 11 active ingredients: seven Lactobacillus species (salivarius, plantarum, rhamnosus, acidophilus, helveticus, casei, paracasei, and brevis), two Bifidobacterium species (animalis lactis and bifidum), inulin, and a proprietary pre- and probiotic blend. These are live-culture probiotics — beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut — plus inulin, a plant fiber that feeds those bacteria.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: vegetable cellulose (the capsule itself), vegetable magnesium stearate, L-ascorbic acid, and silica.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's ingredients varies. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori infection, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum shows possibly effective evidence for IBS and respiratory tract infections. Inulin is possibly effective for obesity, constipation, and diabetes.
For other conditions listed in the research — like depression, cognitive function, or allergic rhinitis — the evidence for these ingredients isn't established in our data. Most of the other probiotic strains in this product don't have rated effectiveness data on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, there is some concern that live probiotic organisms might, in rare cases, cause infection — especially in people who are seriously ill or have weakened immune systems.
Both ingredients carry gastrointestinal side effects in the data: a small number of trial participants experienced bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, or other GI symptoms, though these are uncommon. Inulin commonly causes bloating, gas, and diarrhea, particularly at higher doses.
Rare anaphylaxis has been reported with inulin. For Lactobacillus helveticus, safety data are limited, especially in people with serious illness or compromised immunity.
Given these unknowns, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product — separation of doses is important. If you take antidiabetes drugs, ask your healthcare provider about the inulin in this formula.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help with IBS, antibiotic-related diarrhea, or constipation if you're otherwise healthy. If you take antibiotics, separate them from this product by a few hours, since antibiotics can kill the live bacteria.
Before starting, discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you're ill, have a weakened immune system, or take antidiabetes medication.

Probiotic by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Wonder Laboratories Probiotic contains several ingredients with documented interactions.
Through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus helveticus, and Bifidobacterium bifidum content, this product has Moderate-severity interactions with antibiotic drugs. Since these probiotic strains contain live organisms, antibiotics taken at the same time might kill a significant number of them, potentially decreasing how well the probiotics work.
Altogether, these interactions span 268 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Inulin, another active ingredient, carries a Minor interaction with antidiabetes drugs. Theoretically, inulin might increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with diabetes medications, though the evidence is unclear.
We could not check Lactobacillus salivarius, Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus paracasei, and Lactobacillus brevis — we hold no interaction data for these ingredients. To see whether any of your specific medications interact with this product, use the medication checker on this page.

Bifidobacterium bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
Inulin
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, inulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia with antidiabetes drugs.
Some clinical research shows that inulin improves glycemic control in patients with diabetes; however, it is unclear if it has hypoglycemic effects.
