HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotics 15 BIllion CFU by Carlson
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This capsule contains 4 active ingredients: three strains of beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum) plus a probiotic blend. These are live microorganisms meant to support your gut health.
The inactive ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose (the capsule material), fructooligosaccharide, and silicon dioxide.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections. Bifidobacterium longum, on the other hand, has insufficient evidence for the conditions it's been studied in—we don't have enough reliable data to say whether it works.
The three strains together haven't been tested as a combined product in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, the live organisms they contain do carry a rare risk: in unusual circumstances, particularly in people with weak immune systems, serious illness, or recent surgery, these bacteria have been reported to cause infection (bacteremia or sepsis).
Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and mild digestive upset can occur but are uncommon. For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are rated possibly safe; Bifidobacterium longum is possibly safe for both pregnancy and lactation.
Data on breastfeeding safety for the other two ingredients aren't on file. Because safety data are limited overall, check with your doctor before starting, especially if you're seriously ill, immune-compromised, pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main medications to watch out for. All three live bacterial strains in this product (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum) can be killed off by antibiotics if taken at the same time, which means the probiotic won't work as intended.
Space your doses apart and ask your doctor or pharmacist for guidance on timing.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may help with irritable bowel syndrome and a few other digestive concerns if you take the right strain—but evidence varies by ingredient. The main thing to watch for is timing: don't take it at the same time as antibiotics, since the antibiotics will kill the live bacteria in the capsule.
People who are healthy should generally tolerate it well, but those with weak immune systems, critical illness, or recent major surgery should talk with their doctor first. Run your other medications through the checker below and discuss the plan with your own doctor or pharmacist.

Probiotics 15 BIllion CFU by Carlson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Carlson Probiotics 15 Billion CFU contains live bacterial strains—Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum—that all interact with antibiotic drugs.
When you take antibiotics at the same time as this product, the antibiotics may kill off a significant portion of the live organisms in the probiotic, which could reduce how well the probiotic works. We couldn't check one ingredient (Bifidobacterium animalis lactis) because we hold no data for it.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Antibiotics are the main drug type of concern here—all three checked bacterial strains show a Moderate interaction with them. The best approach is to space out your antibiotic dose and your probiotic dose by at least a few hours (your doctor or pharmacist can advise on the exact timing for your situation).
We could not check Bifidobacterium animalis lactis for interactions. Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact antibiotics and any other drugs you take, then talk with your doctor or pharmacist about the right timing to take them alongside this product.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
