What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: organic Shilajit extract, a mineral-rich substance traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. Shilajit is derived from high-altitude mountain rock and is purported to support various aspects of health.
There are no inactive ingredients listed for this product.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence isn't established for the uses this product is marketed toward. Shilajit carries insufficient reliable evidence to rate for Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and osteoporosis.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means the research we hold doesn't yet support a clear conclusion either way. If you're considering shilajit for any of these reasons, talk with your doctor about what the current evidence shows and whether a trial makes sense for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a small number of adverse effects have been reported. These include a rare case of severe allergy — one person developed hives at a higher dose and later anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction requiring emergency treatment) — and rare headache in clinical research.
There's also one case report of high blood pressure in a person who used shilajit during pregnancy, though a direct link wasn't confirmed. Because unpurified shilajit can contain heavy metals or other contaminants, use only purified, tested brands.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you're pregnant or nursing and interested in shilajit, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your antidiabetes medications before taking this product. Shilajit may increase the blood-sugar-lowering effect of drugs like metformin and sulfonylureas, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Your doctor or pharmacist can help you decide if it's right for you and whether your blood sugar needs closer monitoring.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Shilajit might appeal to you if you're looking for a traditional mineral supplement, but the evidence for most of its claimed uses isn't established yet. The key precaution: if you take diabetes medication, this product can enhance its blood-sugar-lowering effect, raising your risk of low blood sugar.
Discuss shilajit with your doctor or pharmacist before you start, especially if you're on any antidiabetes drugs, and make sure you're using a purified, tested brand.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
