This product contains 2 active ingredients: serrapeptase and protease. Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme—a protein-digesting enzyme derived from the silkworm—that's thought to break down certain proteins in the body.
Protease is another protein-digesting enzyme used similarly. The delayed-release capsule design is meant to help these enzymes survive stomach acid and reach the small intestine intact.
The inactive ingredients are hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, gellan gum, rice, and medium chain triglyceride (all fillers, binders, or capsule materials).

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Serrapeptase is generally tolerated in the short term, though long-term safety hasn't been well studied. The most common side effects are epigastric pain (pain in the upper abdomen), gastrointestinal upset, and nausea—and these appear to occur at about the same rate as placebo in trials.
A rare serious side effect, bullous pemphigoid (a blistering skin condition), has been reported. Protease is generally well tolerated for most adults but may occasionally cause digestive upset or allergic reactions.
Rarely, people exposed to airborne protease—such as occupational exposure—have developed allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (hay fever-like symptoms) or asthma. During pregnancy, the safety data for serrapeptase advises against use.
For breastfeeding, serrapeptase has no reliable safety information, so it should be avoided. Protease safety data during pregnancy and breastfeeding are also limited, so medical advice is recommended before use in these periods.
