Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Ayur Earth Shilajit is a single-ingredient supplement containing shuddha shilajit — a purified form of shilajit, a mineral-rich substance traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: silicon dioxide, maize starch, and the capsule material itself (HPMC).

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Shilajit's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: memory support and energy levels.
  • We looked for evidence on: Alzheimer disease, cognitive decline, fatigue.
  • The closest evidence on file: Shilajit is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Alzheimer disease (Natural Medicines).

The evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable data to rate shilajit for Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, athletic performance, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or osteoporosis. That means the studies either aren't there yet, aren't strong enough, or are too limited for us to say whether it works for these uses.

If you're considering it for one of these purposes, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current research actually supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Shilajit is generally well tolerated, though a small number of adverse events are on record. Rarely, headache has been reported.

One case of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) occurred in a woman who'd taken lower doses without symptoms; she required emergency treatment with adrenaline after taking a higher dose combined with exercise. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy due to insufficient information and contamination risk.

Avoid it while breastfeeding — safety is unknown in that setting. Always choose a purified, tested brand, since unpurified shilajit may contain heavy metals or other contaminants.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Shilajit.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your diabetes medications before taking this product — Moderate severity. Shilajit can lower blood sugar and may enhance the glucose-lowering power of antidiabetes drugs like metformin or glibenclamide, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's safe to combine with your specific medication and dosing.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Shilajit may be worth considering if you're exploring traditional Ayurvedic remedies, but the evidence for its effectiveness on the major claims — Alzheimer disease, sexual function, athletic performance, prostate health, and bone strength — is too thin to recommend it confidently. If you take any diabetes medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, because shilajit can lower blood sugar and may amplify that effect.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Taking shilajit with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Most human and animal research shows that shilajit can decrease fasting plasma glucose levels. In an animal model, shilajit 100 mg per kg daily enhanced the glucose-lowering ability of both glibenclamide and metformin when given in combination over a 4 week period. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.

Shilajit by Ayur Earth: Common Questions

Does Shilajit by Ayur Earth interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Shilajit has a known interaction with 86 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Shilajit contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What exactly is shilajit?
Shilajit is a mineral-rich substance used traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine. This product contains shuddha shilajit — a purified form — to reduce the risk of contamination with heavy metals or other unwanted substances.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — the safety data advises against it during pregnancy due to insufficient information and contamination risk. Avoid it while breastfeeding as well, since safety is unknown in that setting. Talk with your doctor if you have questions about alternatives.
Does shilajit actually work for Alzheimer disease, sexual dysfunction, or athletic performance?
The evidence we hold is insufficient to say. The research either isn't there yet or isn't strong enough for us to rate it as effective for these uses. If you're considering it for any of these purposes, ask your doctor what the current science actually supports.
Are there side effects I should know about?
Most people tolerate it well. Headache is rarely reported. A severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) has been documented in one case — the woman required emergency treatment with adrenaline. If you notice any allergic symptoms, stop use and seek medical attention.
Does the brand matter with shilajit?
Yes. Unpurified products may contain heavy metals or other contaminants. This product uses shuddha (purified) shilajit, but always choose a purified, tested brand to minimize contamination risk.
Can I take this with my diabetes medication?
Not without checking first. Shilajit can lower blood sugar on its own and may enhance the effect of diabetes drugs, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your specific medication before starting.
