What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: strontium at 680 mg per capsule. The inactive ingredients are gelatin (the capsule shell), rice powder, and magnesium stearate (a lubricant).
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Strontium is rated effective for dental hypersensitivity and painful bony metastases (cancer-related bone pain). It's likely effective for osteoporosis — the condition it's most commonly used for — and possibly effective for osteoarthritis and prostate cancer.
The strength of evidence varies by condition, so talk with your doctor about whether it fits your specific situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Strontium is generally well tolerated at doses up to 2 grams daily long-term, with common side effects being diarrhea, nausea, headache, and skin reactions like atopic dermatitis or eczema. However, strontium — especially the ranelate form — carries serious cardiovascular and clotting risks: clinical research shows it increases the risk of blood clots (venous thromboembolism and pulmonary embolism) by about 50% and heart attack risk by about 1.6-fold in people with osteoporosis.
Rare but serious effects also include weak or soft bones (osteomalacia) and heart attack. During pregnancy, safety has not been established — the data advises against use.
While breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety information, so avoid it. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your individual situation before taking strontium if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take estrogens, androgens (testosterone or similar), quinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin), tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline), or antacids. Spacing strontium 2 hours away from antibiotics and antacids is essential to keep them working.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Strontium may help with bone pain, osteoporosis, and related conditions, but it carries real cardiovascular and clotting risks that need to weigh into your decision. If you take hormone medications, antibiotics, or antacids, timing matters — spacing them hours apart is critical.
Discuss the benefits and risks with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you have heart or clotting concerns.

Strontium 680 mg by Best Naturals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Strontium 680 mg by Best Naturals interacts with several medication types, most seriously through its potential to reduce how your body clears certain hormones.
Estrogens and androgens (male hormones) may slow down strontium excretion, theoretically raising strontium levels and risk of side effects — though the real-world importance of this isn't yet clear.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Strontium can also significantly reduce how well your body absorbs certain antibiotics. Quinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin) and tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline) form complexes with strontium in your stomach and intestines, blocking their absorption.
Take strontium at least 2 hours before or after these antibiotics. Antacids work similarly — aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide cut strontium absorption by 20–25%, while calcium cuts it by 60–70%.
Space antacids at least 2 hours away from your strontium dose.
Altogether, these interactions span 101 individual medications. Check your exact prescriptions and over-the-counter medications with the search tool on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Strontium 680 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Strontium
Androgens
Theoretically, androgens might reduce the excretion of strontium, potentially increasing its effects and adverse effects.
A small clinical study suggests that treatment with androgens such as testosterone, nandrolone, oxandrolone, and oxymetholone for 5-6 weeks might decrease urinary strontium excretion. The clinical significance of this interaction is unknown.
Antacids
Antacids can reduce the absorption of strontium, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide can reduce absorption of strontium ranelate by 20% to 25%. Calcium can reduce its absorption to 60% to 70%. Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours of a dose of strontium ranelate. This interaction has also been reported with orally-administered radioactive strontium-85. It will likely also occur with other forms of strontium.
Estrogens
Theoretically, estrogens might reduce the excretion of strontium, potentially increasing its effects and adverse effects.
A small clinical study suggests that treatment with estrogens for 5-6 weeks might decrease urinary strontium excretion. The clinical significance of this interaction is unknown.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, strontium might decrease the absorption of quinolone antibiotics.
Strontium is a divalent cation with similar properties to calcium. It is likely to form complexes with quinolones in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, preventing absorption of the antibiotic. Recommend taking strontium supplements at least 2 hours before or after quinolones to avoid an interaction.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, strontium might decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics.
Strontium is a divalent cation with similar properties to calcium. It is likely to form complexes with tetracyclines in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, preventing absorption of the antibiotic. Recommend taking strontium supplements at least 2 hours before or after tetracyclines to avoid an interaction.
