Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

We hold no graded evidence for this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: support body's acid balance and mineral metabolism.
  • Our graded evidence for these ingredients doesn't cover that particular purpose.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that apple cider vinegar works for the uses listed—acne, athletic performance, cognitive function, dental plaque, depression, or eczema—all are rated as having insufficient reliable evidence. That doesn't mean it can't help, just that the data to prove it isn't there yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

In food amounts, apple cider vinegar is well tolerated. Short-term use at medicinal doses also seems to be handled okay by most people.

However, large doses or long-term use may not be safe. Rare serious side effects reported with chronic use include low potassium (hypokalemia), elevated renin levels, and bone loss (osteoporosis)—one published case involved someone taking 250 mL daily for 6 years.

Topical use carries a risk of chemical burns and skin irritation. The safety data on supplement-strength doses is limited, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking large amounts long-term.

Super Strength Apple Cider Vinegar 500 mg by Simply Supplements: Common Questions

Does Super Strength Apple Cider Vinegar 500 mg by Simply Supplements interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Super Strength Apple Cider Vinegar 500 mg has a known interaction with 162 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Super Strength Apple Cider Vinegar 500 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does apple cider vinegar really work for acne or eczema?
We don't have reliable evidence that it does. The data we hold rates both as having insufficient evidence—meaning the studies aren't there yet to prove whether it helps or not.
Is this safe to take every day?
Short-term use seems well tolerated, but long-term daily use at large doses may not be safe. One reported case of someone taking 250 mL daily for 6 years showed serious effects including low potassium and bone loss. Talk with your doctor before using it long-term.
Will this lower my potassium?
Apple cider vinegar can lower potassium, especially with long-term or large doses. This is a real concern if you're taking diuretics or digoxin, which also affect potassium. Your pharmacist or doctor should monitor this if you're combining them.
Can I take this with my blood pressure or heart medication?
It depends which one. If you take a diuretic (water pill) or digoxin (Lanoxin), this supplement interacts with both—lowering potassium and raising the risk of heart problems. Check with your pharmacist before starting.
Is it safe to use this topically for skin problems?
No. Topical apple cider vinegar may cause chemical burns and skin irritation. There are published cases of burns from applying it to skin, even for just a few days. Don't use it this way.
