Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: stevia leaf extract, a sweetener derived from the stevia plant. The powder form contains no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for stevia's effectiveness isn't established in the data we hold. The product facts note insufficient reliable evidence to rate stevia for diabetes, high blood pressure, or weight loss.
Early clinical research does suggest a single large dose of stevia extract may reduce blood glucose after meals in people with type 2 diabetes, but we don't have a full effectiveness rating for that claim.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Stevia and its steviol glycosides are generally well tolerated. Most people who take it experience mild side effects—such as bloating, dizziness, headache, muscle pain, nausea, or numbness—and these usually resolve within the first week.
Allergic reactions are rare but can occur. Purified stevia in typical food amounts is recognized as safe, but supplement doses in this form lack robust safety data, so caution is warranted.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking KAL Sure Stevia Extract, double-check if you're on lithium (Moderate interaction risk), any blood pressure medications, or any diabetes drugs. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.

Sure Stevia Extract by KAL Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
KAL Sure Stevia Extract is a single-ingredient stevia leaf extract product that does interact with some medications.
The most serious concern is lithium. Theoretically, stevia might slow how your body clears lithium, causing levels to build up—a Moderate severity interaction.
Animal studies suggest stevia has mild diuretic properties that could reduce lithium excretion along with sodium.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll also want to flag blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs) and diabetes drugs before starting this. With blood pressure meds, there's a Minor risk that stevia could lower your pressure further.
With diabetes medications, stevia might theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)—again Minor severity, though early clinical work shows a single large dose of stevia extract may reduce post-meal blood glucose in type 2 diabetes patients.
Altogether, these interactions span 256 individual medications. Before you take this product, use the search tool on this page to check your exact prescriptions.

For each ingredient in Sure Stevia Extract with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Stevia Leaf Extract
Lithium
Theoretically, stevia might decrease clearance and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stevia extracts might have diuretic activity. Theoretically, increased reabsorption of lithium along with sodium might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, stevia might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when combined with antidiabetes drugs.
Preliminary clinical research in patients with type 2 diabetes suggests that taking a single dose of stevia extract 1000 mg reduces postprandial blood glucose levels when taken with a meal. However, other clinical research in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes suggests that taking stevioside 250 mg three times daily does not significantly affect blood glucose levels or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) after three months of treatment.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining stevia or stevia constituents with antihypertensive agents might increase the risk of hypotension.
Stevia extract and stevioside might lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. However, other clinical research suggests that stevioside does not significantly lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
