Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 18 ingredients total, including several live probiotic strains and an elderberry extract. The active components are probiotics — beneficial bacteria species like Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium species, Streptococcus thermophilus, and others — plus elderberry, which is traditionally used for immune support.
There's also Sunfiber, a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria. The rest is made up of inactive ingredients: vegetable capsule material, rice flour, rice extract, and an ester of glycerol.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what this product actually does is mixed and often insufficient. For elderberry alone, we don't have reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness for hay fever, heart disease, fatigue, lung disease, thinking and memory, or upper respiratory infections.
Among the probiotics, Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis, while Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and respiratory tract infections. Most other conditions listed — whether you're looking at the probiotics or elderberry — lack enough reliable evidence for us to rate them one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Elderberry from ripe, properly cooked fruit is generally well tolerated. Raw or unripe berries, seeds, leaves, and bark can contain cyanogenic glycosides and cause nausea, vomiting, severe diarrhea, weakness, dizziness, numbness, and even stupor — cooking eliminates this risk.
The probiotic strains here are generally well tolerated in healthy people, though there's a rare possibility of serious infection (bacteremia or sepsis) in people who are very ill, severely immunocompromised, or have certain medical devices in place. Mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, and discomfort have been reported with probiotic use, though they're uncommon.
The safety data advises against elderberry during pregnancy and breastfeeding. For Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus acidophilus, pregnancy is rated possibly safe, but data on breastfeeding are not on file.
For the other probiotics we could check, pregnancy data are not on file, though food sources of probiotics are generally considered acceptable — talk with your healthcare provider before using this supplement during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist or doctor before taking this product if you're on antibiotic drugs (all four checked probiotic strains can lose effectiveness when given at the same time), immunosuppressant medications, or pazopanib. These are the medication types with documented Moderate-severity interactions in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a multi-strain probiotic with elderberry, so if you're looking for gut support and immune boost, it's a reasonable choice to discuss with your doctor — especially if you have IBS or antibiotic-related diarrhea, where some of these probiotics show promise. If you take immunosuppressants, pazopanib, or antibiotics, definitely check with your pharmacist or doctor first, because spacing matters and the interactions are documented.
People who are very ill or have weakened immunity should get clearance before starting. Run your exact medications through the checker on this page before you begin.

Formula
ElderMune (20,000 mg Elderberry) Sunfiber (prebiotic/postbiotic) Microencapsulated probiotics (16 strains)
Black Elderberry has numerous positive studies for its antibacterial and antiviral activity. It was found to be active against human pathogenic bacteria as well as influenza viruses. Organic ElderMune was chosen for its higher potency (65:1), and superior processing/testing methods. Sunfiber is blended to replace the fiber that is lost in the elderberry juicing process. It also supplies the prebiotic and postbiotic functions, supporting the production of short chain fatty acids acetate, propionate, and butyrate. These help restore the epithelial lining, in the intestines.

Tri Active Biotics Immune Care Black Elderberry by Essential Source Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Tri Active Biotics Immune Care Black Elderberry by Essential Source does interact with medications, chiefly through its elderberry and probiotic content.
The most serious documented interaction is elderberry with immunosuppressant drugs (Moderate severity): elderberry stimulates immune activity by increasing cytokines, which may interfere with the intended dampening effect of immunosuppressants. There's also a single case report of severe liver injury in a patient taking elderberry with pazopanib, a cancer drug.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
All four of the probiotics we could check — Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum, and Lactobacillus acidophilus — carry the same Moderate-severity concern with antibiotic drugs. Because these are live organisms, antibiotics taken at the same time may kill them and reduce the probiotic's effectiveness.
The key here is timing: space your antibiotics and this supplement apart, rather than take them together.
Several of the probiotic strains in this blend — Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Sunfiber, Lactobacillus plantarum LP01, Bifidobacterium lactis BS01, Lactobacillus plantarum LP09, Lactobacillus rhamnosus LR06, Lactobacillus casei LC03, Lactobacillus rhamnosus LR05, Lactobacillus reuteri LRE02, Bifidobacterium infantis BI02, Lactobacillus salivarius subsp. salivarius CRL1328, and Bifidobacterium lactis BA05 — we could not check, so no interaction data are on file for them.
Altogethe, these interactions span 302 individual medications. Before you start, use the search tool below to check your exact medications against this product, particularly if you take immunosuppressants, pazopanib, or antibiotics.
