HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Tru Niagen Pro 500 by ChromaDex
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: nicotinamide riboside (also sold as Niagen), which is a form of vitamin B3 (niacin). It's designed to support cellular energy and metabolism.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose (a binder), hypromellose (a capsule material), and magnesium stearate (a lubricant) — that help deliver the active ingredient.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for nicotinamide riboside isn't yet established for the conditions listed on the product label. The data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate its use for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), Alzheimer disease, athletic performance, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and heart failure.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means the research so far isn't robust enough to draw firm conclusions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Nicotinamide riboside appears generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety isn't fully known. The most common side effects reported in trials are bloating, muscle pain, nausea, itching, sweating, and changes in stool consistency.
Mild nausea and transient digestive changes have also been documented. One person in a trial reported leg cramps.
Because there isn't enough safety data, it's best to avoid this product during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.

The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Tru Niagen Pro 500 by ChromaDex Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Tru Niagen Pro 500 contains nicotinamide riboside (Niagen), which interacts with one medication category we've documented.
The main concern is with blood pressure–lowering drugs (antihypertensive drugs). Nicotinamide riboside may add to their effect, which could theoretically push your blood pressure lower than intended.
One small study suggests nicotinamide riboside itself can modestly lower blood pressure in people with high blood pressure, though other research didn't find this effect. Altogether, these interactions span 170 individual medications.

Because the interaction is rated Minor, it's not a reason to skip the product outright — but if you take any blood pressure medication, check your exact drugs with the search tool below before you start. Your pharmacist or doctor can tell you whether you need to adjust anything or simply monitor how you feel.
